You’re less likely to catch an STI orally than through unprotected penetrative sex, although it’s still very possible.

As I posted in an STI thread earlier, at my last test, the nurse told me that Swingers tend to test clear a lot of the time, presumably because of high level of understanding & regular testing - but frequently, positive tests tend to be from oral swabs.

I believe it’s also likely to be less damaging that contracting it ‘downstairs’ and harder to pass on ... although again, still possible & still a risk!!

And it’s not just blow jobs. How many guys use a dam when going down on a woman?!

I play safe but tempered with gut instinct and judgement calls.

To me, the chances of contracting and passing on an STI from a blowjob is low enough for me to class it as safe. That, and I get checked regularly to make sure that I haven’t got one.

Same with unprotected sex...if I’ve known you for a long time and I trust you, I’ll probably dispense with the condom.

Safe doesn’t mean guaranteed...you can catch genital warts if you’re gloved. The only way to be absolutely, 100% safe is abstinence. Yeurch, I’m off to go wash my mouth out after uttering that horrible word.

Everyone’s got their own definition of safe sex - which is why communicating is key before you get jiggy with it
