Is the way that you interact on the forums a reflection of your true self?

I was talking with a forumite the other night and I was told how they think how I interact on here (not that I can remember what was said) and I said it was a fairly true representation of how I am in real life.

Have other forumites made comments about your behaviour on the forums and did you agree with those views? Is your behaviour online a fair representation of how you behave offline, or do you hide behind a bit of a smoke screen?

Yes I'm the same in the real world (not saying that's a good thing) but the big difference is in real life people see your body language and hear your tone.

Sometimes my comments can appear harsh written but most of the time I don't intend it to be

No a think I’m more honest and open on forum, in person I can be quite guarded and quiet only open up when know someone. But on forum I tell ppl how feeling my excitement or fears

I even posted how depressed I was an had been but I hid that from ppl who care due to shame and fear of weakness

There and to the left a bit

The ONLY difference between my forum character and my in person one is that in person I'm a little less outgoing and border on being shy until I'm comfortable with someone or a situation - on here the ability to be able to think of and formulate a response before you post it allows me to be a little more comfortable and confident in expressing my thoughts and opinions.

Those thoughts and opinions don't change between the two mediums but I may not always express them in person if I'm not comfortable with someone.

I would like to think that when people meet me in person I am the same as I come across on the forums.

I'm a genuine caring person in real life and would like to think that shows in my posts.

I'm also a very horny lady who adores sex. I hope that comes across in both the forums and when people meet me too

It's a fairly subjective thing though isn't it? How other forum users view you that is. One particular post and that's their way of interpreting you set - posts will be ignored or remembered depending on what fits that particular preconception.

Am I like how I am on the forum? Yes, if we speak about the same topics. Actually I'm slightly more sarcastic and prone to bumbling if I fangirl over you.

I’m nothing like people expect me to be in real life . I’ve met people who have said how funny I am in person , something that rarely happens on here .

It’s bloody hard to get humour into the written word on a forum , and people pre conceive how they think you are anyway , so often miss it .

I really don’t suffer fools gladly , either on here or in the real world , so maybe that’s why people on the forums sometimes struggle to get me .

Very interesting and revealing replies....

If you think or communicate differently because your on a keyboard then I'd suggest there are issues somewhere.

If you think others a different when they are behind a keyboard then I'd suggest a mirror.

Surely you have to take people at face value and credit them with being themselves?

I think I'm more guarded about what I say on the forums, and maybe in private messages too, much of the time, although sometimes I probably say more than I would normally do about some subjects.

It's often easier face to face, real world, for me to interact more openly with others. It's part of my life and work, and feels easier when I can see and hear others responses rather than just reading them through a screen.

While I may be less open here than in "normal" life the things I believe, care about, feel, are the same here and outside of fab even though I am more confident in expressing those things and allowing others closer to me than I ever can be on fab.

"I was talking with a forumite the other night and I was told how they think how I interact on here (not that I can remember what was said) and I said it was a fairly true representation of how I am in real life.

Have other forumites made comments about your behaviour on the forums and did you agree with those views? Is your behaviour online a fair representation of how you behave offline, or do you hide behind a bit of a smoke screen? "

I've met people from the forums who are totally different offline, all talk here but empty in reality

Not really, more your demeanour. You’re always a grump, hankering for those halcyon days of the forum.

"I was told at a social yesterday that I’m nothing in person like I’m on forums "

Did you take it as a compliment?

I’m the exact same sarcastic annoying bitch no matter where I am. Although I speak with a deeper voice than I do here

My Own Little World

This isn't a true me.

I am very aware that my sense of humour doesn't translate that great in the written word. I can come across as a bitch when that isn't my intention, so I rarely type what I would say IRL. Plus I'm a lot more chatty and flirty but I would only get accused of favoritism. It just wouldn't come across the right way and it isn't worth the hassle.

Den of Iniquity

I am me and I write posts exactly as I'd say them . That way I know who likes me and who doesn't, as I have a sarcastic wit . But those people I get on with here know I'm a big softie really

I think people have different personas on the internet in general than their true personality. My theory anyway.
