"Who's got one, are they worth it? Front and rear, or just front? Does yours record when you are parked? " I was given one worth £100...... tbh I don’t think it’s worth it. This particular one only records when the car is turned on so I don’t see the point. It’s a decent one made by Phillips. I just can’t be bothered with it. Sell it you for £60 lol

"I don't have or need a car at present, but love watching the Caught On Dashcam programs. There are certainly some crazy fuckers about, not least in Eastern Europe " . Oh my that's very xenophobic of you!. Surely you can remember that everybody in the whole world has the same driving standards and culture as we do in the UK

"Yes have them . Have had one on my car now for about 6 years. Still working today. One of those Chinese mini 08??. Not sure exactly model as latest ones are out now. Hardwired into the ignition so records when car is started, turns off when car is off. Waste if you have it running all the time as you will run your battery out eventually as uses 12v, so bit like leaving the lights on. Wired the misses one just recently mini 08?? Not sure what was 25.99 and very good quality. Same ignition wired. As the mini series are very good quality and very good at night." Just use a battery protection device for when your parked. Like the Itronics Itv-80 Uninterruped Power supply. You can set it to cut power once the battery level falls to near ignition voltage. Then providing you have enough power in the car battery it will stay powered without the risk of a flat battery. Used this method for years now.

"I use Blackvue cameras that detect when parked and go into parking mode. This reduces power consumption by shutting of the gps as this is not needed when parked. Thus the camera uses less power and stay on longer when parked and ignition off." I need this for my car where can I get it please?

"Yes all of us in our house have. Two of us do a lot of driving with work. At the moment we only have front cams, the Nextbase Dash Cam 612GW bought from Halfords Not cheap but the play back quality is great. No point having a cam if the clarity is poor.... Not sure if my cam records where I’m parked, but my car does that anyway. I’m sure we will be investing in rear cams in the future too. Uk driving standards are at an all time low I feel, and law enforcement appears to focus on making a quick buck rather than preventing accidents. We live close to the A1 around Newark area and a stretch that is blighted by accidents. This week marked another loss of life. On a different note, and perhaps I’ll post a thread sometime; I bought my 17 yr old a dash cam after her insurer accused her of doing 103 mph on the A1 from the black box data. An in depth saga for another day though..." Did the cam prove she was only doing 102?

Actually she hadn’t even left the house at the time they claimed. Black box is a thread on its own. Though I’m sure when I get round to posting a few will be disappointed to see it’s about cars and insurance.

"Also another advantage of using something like the Itronics Itv-80 Uninterruped Power supply is in an accident even when you turn the ignition off and take the key out the camera will record. Eveidence that may well be important in the case of other roadside events/things said (if your camera records sound) after the initial accident. To me dash cams without the abillity to record when car is turned off only do half the job. It's all very easy to wire up, done a few in my time. " Well I'm having to buy a new-to-me car after my last one got written off by something very large hitting it whilst it was parked up for about 15 minutes. Of course whoever did it fled the scene without leaving any note or anything, so I got screwed over it. I don't want the same to happen again.

But if someone is stupid enough to use a dashcamember and record themselves droving like a twat or even causing a fatal accident then I'm all for that.

"Get a blackveiw well worth thee money,3 modes normal, parking and event What's "event mode" for? Is that for when you go dogging?" Lol no. In the event of the G sensor registering a high enough load (in the event of an impact) it automatically saves the previous minute or so and 30 seconds after in a separate file that isn't automatically recorded over as non event files are (So the memory card doesn't fill up),

"Yes we have two and I spent Months researching them. The rule is to not buy one that records footage as AVI because it will use a pretty shitty APU (a CPU with a built in graphics processor) and blown up will look all blurry and laggy. ALWAYS buy one the records footage as MOV as this is a higher bitrate and needs a more powerful APU and will have usable footage. Lastly what you have to ask yourself when buying a dash cam is: If I am in a no fault accident where the other party contests it, do I want my proof to be a blurry mess? Or do I want it to be clear and perfect? The answer to this question is the difference between losing your no claims bonus and being fucked over by the insurance companies when it comes to renewal time." What did you go for in the end?

" What did you go for in the end? " I started off with a generic G1WH but it fell off the windscreen and a line appeared on the screen. I then bought a MAISI 2K Extreme HD Pro from Amazon and put the G1WH in my Campervan but then it was robbed out of it so I bought another one that is very similar to the Maisi. The good points of the Maisi is it has a strong Ambarella A7 APU, can run up to a resolution of 2304*1296p (although 1080p at 60 FPS is better), it has a 1.8 aperture lens (so It's very good in low light) and it has HDR (so the footage is more vibrant & clear) At the moment It's £49.99 on Amazon but factor in the price of a class 10 micro sd card (I always use Samsung UHD Class 10) and make sure you turn the G-shock settings to low or off as it write protects a file after an impact (and if you don't realise this, after the card has filled up the dash cam will shut down because it can't delete that protected file) To be honest as long as a Dash Cam is advertised as recording footage as MOV (not AVI) it will probably be ok but there are fakes so Amazon is a good place to buy because you can read user reviews on them.

"Does anyone know if the 2channel cameras record BOTH cameras in park mode, or if it's just the front camera? " Both record on a Blackvue 2ch like mine in parking mode. Obviously for parking mode you'll need a device to provide power when the car is switched off that protects car battery from over discharge. Blackvue make such a device too but personally I use a different (and better device IMO) for my car. If car battery is healthy and well charged from driving cameras will stay on all night long.
