I van be quite empathetic and sensitive.

But as a solitary person i try to avoid other people as much as i can get away with so that might not demonstrate good emotional intelligence?

I’m usually more attracted to guys with good emotional intelligence. I like people who are very self aware and knows how to express emotions.

I am very aware of the emotional dynamics between myself and others and am usually very empathetic.

You remind me of a fabby cocktail I had recently - they took a whole pineapple, hollowed out the flesh, juiced it with coconut and rum and then put it back into the pineapple and simply added a straw! Was heavenly!!

For me it’s about recognising and processing or responding to emotions appropriately, both in myself and others, rather than acting out my unresolved distress from earlier emotional experiences.

I fluctuate. I think I’ve reasonable emotional intelligence, and yet can be overly critical of myself and not celebrate the things I’m good at, instead focusing more on my failings and inability to be the best me that I’d like to be. On the one hand, I can peel back what’s really going for others to know how to interact to achieve a mutual and positive outcome, and yet when it’s in relation to me (say romantically) I’m awful, as I consistently start from the framing of my lack of worth. So, I don’t know if the lack of self esteem shows lack of emotional intelligence or is just a block that scuppers my true emotional intelligence at times. At a simplistic level, and not quite what EI is about, but what best summarises who I am; I’d say I’m very emotional and not so much intelligent.

Interesting. I see it as knowing yourself and being able to manage emotional input from other people, for example, I send a message and the reply is ‘unfortunate’ - do I start a moany thread? No. do I send a nasty reply? No. It’s about realising these things aren’t personal per se although they can appear to be and directly so. It makes it easier to manage fab life.

Absolutely and good distinction. What I'm saying is that my personal strategy is to polarise people early. That way you never end up relying on people that you have to tread on eggshells around.

I'm not saying everyone should follow that strategy either. It just works for me in the context of the career and lifestyle I've chosen.

That's me. I don't take offence easily, if at all, but I see other people's reasons for being offended and can empathise with them.

Hearing the unspoken and feeling someone. It's many things, incredibly complex but becomes an art. It includes knowing how to be yourself, respect yourself and precision understanding of your needs, feelings and honouring them. Often it's just noticing your myriad of feelings, which will often help you to better understand those of others. It's complex but then people are.
