Need a new car

Right, so as we all know, life likes to kick you in the balls when your down. I was having a crap week last week, and parked my car on the side of the road for 15 minutes and went to grab some lunch. Came back to find that someone has hit my car, above the brakelights, puncturing both the boot, and rear quarter panel. Not dented it, not scratched it, but actually puncturing it with a whopping great hole.

Repairer has said it's a write-off, now waiting for the insurance company to call about the next step.

I currently have a Mondeo, and need a big car as we have a 10 month old and need to lug a pram about. Should I get another Mondeo, or something different?

Brighton - even Hove!

The Mondeo has a huge boot compared to similarly sized cars. Closest I’ve seen for size is a Mercedes estate.

I know, I absolutely LOVE the boot on the Mondeo, and use it a lot, so I need something with a massive boot.

How long did you have the mondeo? Was it reliable? Did it suit your needs? If so then stick to what you know. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I always found it easier to put the baby in the boot and leave the house at home....

The adaptive cruise on the new one is amazing, you can go up a busy motorway without ever touching the accelerator or brakes.

We bought an XC90 due to H having disc issues & needing more room for the kids & dog. Seven seats all the toys, not great on fuel in either petrol or diesel versions but tons of room and the most important thing for us.

"No one has ever died in an XC90 since its launch in the UK"

Officially the safest car on UK roads, just don't buy a new one or your eyes will water at the price

I'd like to know how the hell they write a car off for a couple of dents?

Repair it yourself, buy secondhand parts, get the paint done by a professional and save yourself hundreds.

I don't really know my way around vehicles, however I've had to learn due to buying a 21 year old P38 Range Rover, currently saved myself over £2000 in garage fees by doing various bits myself, including replacing a fuel pump, oil cooler, fusebox, and various electrical problems... trust me, its scary when you first think about it, but the sense of satisfaction and achievement is hard to beat.

I’ve just bought another car, still got my civic type R but there’s no way I’d be putting our baby in it, the ride quality is brutal even on a smooth road.

I’ve gone for a Honda CR-V....I fucking love it.....2.2 diesel, mapped up to 220bhp, loads of room and a nice high driving position and returns 50mpg.

Admittedly it’s nowhere near as fun as the civic and the handling is like a boat when compared but it’s great in every other way so far.

Plus it’s part time 4x4 for when the weather is shit

Yeah, same dif really, unless they are the size of windows, or have compromised the chassis or essential systems, then I don't see a problem.

My mum has a Dacia Duster and the boot on that is very large - it fits her heavy duty mobility scooter in it (taken apart) so a pram and bits and bobs would be a breeze.

Not massive amounts of leg room in the back but that shouldn’t be an issue for many years yet.

I can sit in it comfortably to drive and i’m 6ft 2.

Quite reasonably priced.

Not sure on the more technical specifications, but it strikes me as being quite sturdy.

I feel your pain.

Last week my son bought a new car, not a new new car, but new for him. It was immaculate inside and out.

Drove it from the forecourt, got it home and we all did the admire the new car thing. Took his sister to the shop. Left it in Tesco's carpark for 15 mins, came out and some fucker had knocked it, he had owned the car for less than 90 minutes!

A dent and paint scratch in the front under the headlight and a bit of the trim around the front grill had been broken off.

My husband was more pissed off than my son was.

They are fuckedy fuck fuckers aren't they. People have no respect. Our car had taken a few scrapes in car parks, luckily I can repair the paint damage, but I couldn't find anyone to take out the dent. But this time it's a write off, my wife cried when I told her

Frisky had a Toyota Rav4.

I'm 6'4" and broad, you could get 5 of me in it comfortably and had a huge boot...

Volvo estate, fast and big.

A Land Rover 110, the ultimate in family vehicles but no iso fixings but that can be sorted with ratchet straps and duct tape...

Six seater transit van, it's the most useful vehicle I've owned. Obviously other makes from VW etc plenty of room in the back for any activities you may choose... Or just lugging prams about lol

The superb is in the same league as BMW vokkswagen merc audi etc

Since VW took them over there an amazing car

No need to get an estate the boot in tge 4 door saloon is the same size

Fold the back seats down I had 2 fridge freezers in mine that's how big the boot space is

Fully loaded as standard with blue tooth usb ports air con voice control etc etc etc

Test drive one .you'll find it hard to beat

I've got a mondeo at the moment and the bootspace is bigger than in my other car, a Toyota corolla verso (supposedly an estate!).

I did have a ford focus estate. Absolutely enormous inside. I managed to fit two Ikea settees in it.

i think the superb and the mondeo are the same boot size 625 litres

skodas the better stronger greener car by miles
