So what IS my body type?

Hello my lovelies!

A couple of weeks ago I contributed to a thread on body type!

On that particular thread I was ‘called out’ by a fellow fabber for describing myself as curvy! In her opinion I’m most definitely not curvy.

So I’m curious to know what everyone else’s opinion is. Personally I don’t consider myself slim - and sadly I’m certainly not athletic - but I thought ‘average ‘ (as per national average sizes) for my height was around a size 16 these days?

So - question - what’s my body type in your opinion?

Ps - not fishing for compliments so please feel free to be totally honest!

Thanks - and enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!

Why is curvy thought of as only belonging to those who are larger?

You're slim but curvy OP. You have an arse and boobs and your waist is smaller - sort of hourglassish. So I'd say curvy. I don't think of average as relating to being a size 16, more down to proportions. I've typed curvy too often and now I am questioning if it's spelt correctly!

Curvy is subjective as I'd say it's more a body shape than type. I'm overweight but curvy as I have a defined waist to hip.

Could do with a secondary body type feature for curvy, pear, apple etc.

I'd say you're slim rather than curvy as your boobs are small like mine and I associate curvy as someone with slim waist, round bum and big boobs ........ you only have 2/3 of those traits.

But each to their own, as long as you're confident that's the main thing! (I'm not sure how to describe myself so what do I know lol)

I remember the thread as I contributed to it too. In my opinion the whole words used are wildly open to misinterpretation and manipulation on both sides so really it’s not about what we think but requires a bit of personal appraisal and honesty.

In my opinion I’d say you were slim. Essentially though all human beings have curves unless they’re made of blocks so curvy suits too.

*gallic shrug*

It’s what description you feel fits you best and adequately describes your body shape to others though.

Fun this fab lark isn’t it!

Just by looks. BMI is a rough guide to ideal weight anyway as it depends on personal muscle mass etc. But to be honest, it doesn't matter how you describe yourself.

How can a size 16 women of average height be slim? What would that make a size 10-12?

Surely curvy or average is a fair description for the Op, the tone that some seem to place on being curvy is derogatory. Curvy doesn't necessarily mean overweight or obese.

To me, curvy is a definition. Small waist, larger hips and full breasts. The hourglass figure if you'd like. Looking at your pictures, especially where you are naturally standing and not using your angles, i don't think the definitions are strong enough to be deemed as curvy. I would say you fitted into the slim shape category.... Full peachy arse though! But we choose what defines us. Each of us has a completely different idea of what body fits each shape. Whatever shape defines you, you look great lovely

Hi Peachy xx

Trying to be accurate when the options are pretty limiting has had me changing between the three boxes loads of times.

I have ticked slim (when I was feeling in a hopeful and confident mood ) ... I’ve ticked average too but it’s such a crap word I think so I’ve ticked curvy at the minute but put slim/curvy in the profile because that’s what I’d hope I am. Having met you I’d say slim with curves ... you have a proper gorgeous figure!

Maybe fab needs to add “slim with curves” as an option?

Don’t most people decide from the pics anyway?

Curvy is often seen as a euphemism for fat, (self confessed user of that euphemism!) so in that respect I'd say no. If you use the word 'curvy' to describe the archetypal hourglass figure shape then I'd say yes.

In my opinion, you are smoking hot! But unfortunately that's not an option in the Dropbox list.....

"Omg if size 16 at 5ft8 is average then wtf am I? That is well above a good bmi ..."

Hi lovely. Just googled it!

Apparently the average uk woman (as of 2017) is 5ft 5 and a size 16!

I’m 5ft 7-8 and size 12 - so taller in height but smaller in dress size!

I’d say you were Curvy - but it’s obviously your choice how you describe yourself!

It isn’t - but thanks so much for the compliment Foxy! And for what it’s worth - I’d definitely say you’re curvy!

"Curvy is subjective as I'd say it's more a body shape than type. I'm overweight but curvy as I have a defined waist to hip.

Could do with a secondary body type feature for curvy, pear, apple etc. "

You hit the nail on the head. Body Type is definitely subjective so everyone’s opinion will differ. I had this same conversation with a woman friend of mine who I feel is curvy and has a beautiful body. She pointed out someone to me whom she considered curvy but I considered fat. The fat woman was still beautiful but she was fat in my opinion and curvy in my friends. So in my opinion you are whatever you feel and believe you are op. I would say you are doing alright because I know many women who are half your age who don’t look half as good as you do.

Omg I'm nearly 5ft11 and 10 on the bottom and 12 on the top ... I put average but really not sure about curvy?

somewhere in the Shire of Derby

Slim with curves.

Height/ weight plays a big part though as you can have three people all the same dress size but all carry weight very differently and will obviously look different. Someone who is 5ft and a sz 14 could be classed as curvy/average build whereas someone 5ft 9 and sz 14 could be slim and quite lean if they are athletic

Masked and Distant

In my opinion, after close and prolonged inspection

I would class your body type as.....

Pause for dramatic effect.

Just about spot on.

Curves in all the right places and perfectly proportioned.

I'm now seriously confused regarding body type!

Though 5ft5 and size 16 is a terrible bmi

Didnt we all used to be classified as pears or apples or hourglasses, for some reason I remember a lesson on that in science at school. Ectomorphs and meisomorphs and endomorphs? No one would still have a clue what you were so just keep looking at pics instead

The term curvy does get misused, you can be curvy and only a size 10 it all depends on proportion of assets!

"Why is curvy thought of as only belonging to those who are larger?

You're slim but curvy OP. You have an arse and boobs and your waist is smaller - sort of hourglassish. So I'd say curvy. I don't think of average as relating to being a size 16, more down to proportions. I've typed curvy too often and now I am questioning if it's spelt correctly! "

Exactly. You can be less than five foot tall, a size eight and still be curvy! Often described as a pocket rocket.

Fondly recalls said example from recent trip to Greece...

I'm a pear and I'd love for that to be an option for me on here, instead I've gone with fabulous
