What’s with those pointless disclaimers

UCC 1-103 1-308 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WITHOUT PREJUDICE

I see this written at the bottom of so many profiles. Do any of those who post this even know what the Uniform Commercial Codes relating to financial transactions are, and in what way they affect anything hosted on a uk website?

Perhaps the following from the fab terms should clear it up,

“10.7 It is your responsibility to decide which Content to publish or send (subject to these terms and conditions). We do not accept responsibility if your Content is misused by others as this is outside our reasonable control. Do not send or publish any Content if you are concerned that it may be misused.”

Surely writing disclaimers is actually pointless, but I guess if it makes the poster happy, leave em to it.

Some people are new and don't realise it's a pointless set of words. They're just trying to be careful. Big companies bang on about internet security with passwords etc so they probably think it's a good idea.

It used to bug me but it doesn't anymore.

I often see one about rights under the E.U. blah blah blah. I really want to pm them and ask whether they voted to leave or stay.

Its the claim that legal action will be pursued that i find interesting. Can not believe many would pay a solicitor..

It’s an idiot filter. Works pretty well.

I read somewhere that it was an experiment by some studying 'the herd unstinct' , so to prove a point she created this disclaimer to show how many people would blindly copy it.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Hi, I’m from Melbourne University; We haven’t got the funding nor resources of Sydney Uni but are nonetheless, equally nosey and would really love to steal all your pics and shit.

....Unless of course you put a three page essay disclaimer up to stop us in our nefarious tracks

Just to annoy me, the site even points out they are useless and waste space.

I love them..... I can see at a glance that the person is stupid and gullible and so not for me....it is a great filtration system

North Norfolk

Those that copy and paste the bit that refers to "Facebook being a publicly traded entity" amuse me, like that means what exactly????

As for those that blindly copy and paste the disclaimer from other sites (can I mention A F F?) without amendment....!!!!!

If you're worried about something being used.....don't write/post it!!
