Txt spk epidemic worsens!

Jump to newest

We have never been fans of text speak, but when you used to browse profiles and they were written in txt spk, when you scrolled down it was always younger couples.

I suppose this could be forgiven, but now, it's appearing in profiles where the couple/woman/man are in their forties!!

We find it takes longer to type that way!! (so maybe it can't be laziness?)

It's an epidemic I tell you!!

Thoughts?

Grammar is important. Capital letters are the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse, and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

always type full messages, but generally use it for not important bits tagged on, ie:-imo, tbh etc.

Hate text speak, to be honest. Gives me a headache trying to work out what that person is saying...

Plus I don't know whether anyone has noticed this, but I've found that people who write in text speak, actually talk like it too

in your post you put an emmocon inbwteen letters , and it took a while for me to realise what you meant, (got it now ta )

do people think these funny faces have their place in the middle of a message of just an added bonus to define the mood , xx

(now waits for HSM to hit back )xx

What a tool, so if sum1 puts sum1 instead of someone, does that mean that they are shite in bed? Get a grip!!

It may not indicate "cutting corners in bed", but it definitely indicates a lack of maturity, a certain lack of intelligence, a total lack of regard for the recipient, and a certain laziness.

This may not be a major problem for some but it could be a "deal breaker" for those who seek mature, intelligent interactions.

And this is non-trivial in my view.

This little party trick only works if one assumes the reader has some notion of spelling and grammar. Thus although it is slightly more difficult to read it still follows 'known' expectations.

The problem with text speak is that it uses abbreviations that are ambiguous and therefore need more time to decipher. When you also add the fact people use different abbreviations, or invent ones for words they're unfamiliar with, this creates a minefield of misinterpretation. It also tends not to save much time for the writer and saves even less for the reader.

Agree, and those little coma things, "No thank you" "no, thank you" can be the diffrence between getting a meet and being blocked, lol
