Brandy drinkers question

I need to buy a bottle of brandy as a thank you for a business associate. It needs to cost £100 - £200 and i want him to know it cost that (i.e. not something you pick up in tesco). I know he normally likes to drink Courvoisier, so something similar but premium would be good.

Any recommendations?

The top grade of Brandy Is Napolion. The one under is XO. Then you come down to VSOP and the lowestis Cognac

Most brands do the whole range but if he likes Courvoisier then go for Courvoisier Napoleon He will know it costs a lot. Hope that helps.

The opportunity cost of its price is considered proportional to the thanks being given, according to social convention.

According to the post above, doesn't the XO mean it's not their top quality? Isn't XO second best

Bad idea. In psychology, people average the value of gifts. So he'll only see it as a £54 gift even though it'll cost me over £200. It's why you should never buy someone an expensive gift and cheap gift at the same time.

If you get any of the types mentioned in a large bottle or in a gift set the price will be between £100-£200

I used to sell the stuff and would always go for Armagnac over Cognac in terms of quality and exclusivity. Strange as it might sound take a look at the whisky exchange for bottles up to £2500....

Master of malt is a very good resource.

The Asbach is a premium brand.

Do they? That explains my unpopularity.

He must be a good egg to be worth so much.

Janneau is at the better end but all Amagnacs are small production and have their own distinct characters .....you will be able to pick up a decent 30 year old example in your budget.

...Up on the Downs

Get the Remy XO in one of those fabulous bottles - the Cannes one is £190 but they go up to £20,000 lol! I'm not a fan of brandy, but I did a shoot once for their ad campaign and remember the bottles.....
