If people cared half as much about people in life, as they do about football, the world would be a much nicer place to live.

Just saying.

Possibly, but the way World Cup fever seems to take over so many people in the world at one given time, I do wonder what else has the same amount of 'followers' for want of a better word.

Surely, it's a good thing.

It's brought people from around the world, to one country, where they're partying in harmony and friendship. Can't see much bad about that myself.

Not sure about that. Madness in the supermarket alcohol aisle, TVs set up in gardens, bbq’s on the go, everyone at home, flags in cars and spontaneous burst of ‘f*** noooo’ has been my afternoon observations. . Even the xmas editions don’t get that much loving

Good point but most people's avid passion for the football is fleeting and will be completely forgotten in a couple of weeks.

Im a massive football fan but i dont think it is people caring about football, it is the feeling of everyone coming together.

The whole country sunddenly goes back to when we would say hello to people in the street or help an elder carry shopping.

That is lost today as people are sceptical of kindness, football fever breaks those boundaries.

Agree.

There is too much passion wasted in football. I’ve watched 3 matches in this tournament, the most I’ve watched in my whole life! It’s opened my eyes to what I think is an ungentlemanly, aggressive, devious sport. It’s not for me.

Is it that just the fact that it moves the other shit in the TV schedules that pisses people off?

Must be terrible to have to watch Deadenders at 9:30

Mind you, must be terrible to watch it at all.

I don't think it's about caring it's about sport health fitness and patriotism, I don't watch domestic football anymore because the local team is a bunch of highly paid foreigners, not about the area they are playing for but I love my national team to do well as with the England Rugby but I personally support all British teams in things like the rugby world cup etc I can still do my bit for the world's downtrodden people

That's like saying 'if people ate broccoli instead of cake, we'd all be healthier'

It's true but it ignores the basic fact that people like to do things that make them feel good.

The shops and streets were deserted this afternoon. It was a great feeling, that so many people were home watching the game.

Exactly, and wouldn't it be nice if people put a little more care into others too. Football shows that people can care, but it gets forgotten about in every day life.

I thought i was alone with that thought.

If we could come together in the same way, and spend the money thats been spent on drink etc for football, this world would be a better place, help those so much less fortunate than anyone in this country

Really not sure how following a sporting event conflates to caring or it's absence amongst people...

Maybe its my inner optimist but I see people caring for others in a million different ways day by day that has nothing to do with sporting events...

This

The hours, money, investment, effort, passion, etc etc that goes into care of humanity, across the globe, is countless more times and far more valuable than what goes into football, or any other sporting event for that matter.

Live Aid

Comic Relief

Sports Relief

Children in need...

Just a short list. It doesn't include the thousands of smaller events etc that take place every day by some in sport of others.

Ffs. It's a football match. It's one day. It's not a cure for cancer!

A little less cynic a little more appreciation for those who every day put the welfare of others first perhaps?

Yep,but football raises alot of money for charity, clubs have care in the community programs. It is only a few weeks ago clebs+ex footballers played a match for unicef. Think they raised £5 million from that match alone. Ex players set schools up for children who wouldn't get any education, and it goes on. Football does more than you think.
