And I agree, Froome isn't a drugs cheat.

Adam Yates is someone to look out for too - He's the twin of Simon who had the pink jersey for 13 stages of the Giro.

Simon looked incredible at the Giro, then just blew. That Giro was the best Grand Tour I’ve seen.

The medical information that they released from Froome a week or so ago shows the reason behind it. When Froome started the Giro, he was (intentionally) over target weight. By following a strict diet and a tough exercise regime he got to target on the third week which is where he started to improve.

At that point, Simon had used up all his stores, so started to fade away

When you watch Neymar acting like a little bitch, then see what pro cyclist endure it’s a fucking embarrassment. In the Tour a few years ago Johnny Hoogerland was hit by a car, landed on top of a barbed wire fence, his legs were shredded, after medical help, he rode and finished the stage, then completed the Tour.

It’s a very different era now, to previous ones, but people who know nothing about the sport aren’t interested in hearing that. Cycling will always be the whipping boy, even those it’s the most regulated and tested sport in the world. Know one mentions all the drugs cheats found in tennis etc

I was never a fan of Wiggins, he got gifted his only Tour win, cause there was no competition and the best rider was his domestique.

Chris Froome uses an inhaler, for exercise induced asthma, that’s very different to what Wiggins done. Wiggins operated within the rules, but it didn’t make it right. If you think using an inhaler can make you fly up mountains and compete in 3 weeks grand tour then ever fat bloke in Lycra would be doing it.

The fact is these are the fittest people on the planet and put in a huge sacrifice to compete, but all these clueless people keep banging on about an inhaler, that just helps him breathe normally so he doesn’t have an attack. Stick with those prima donnas kicking a bag of wind about.

Dude you have not got a clue.

I used to be a long distance endurance athlete taking part in long distance triathlons ...

And I suffer badly from exercise induced asthma.

It's when the body is at its limits and puts additional strain on the lungs at this point my lungs turn into rice pudding and breathing is next to impossible . however a few poofs on my inhaler and hey presto.

It's similar with hay fever not as bad but basically when I am training when pollen count is high the hayfever triggers asthma.

Now I have stopped the only thing I have to take regularly is antihistamines due to our cat's.

The Tour de France has for many years been dogged with drug cheating / taking.Chris Froome is just the latest. My knowledge on the sport is limited but from what I understand he has been cleared to compete by the relevant boards for me it’s innocent until proven guilty however I have a feeling we will not know the truth until he is close to retiring like the the American cyclist Armstrong.

This is hilarious!!

I may be clueless chief, but at least my head isn’t buried in the sand.

Cycling is the dirtiest sport on the planet. But it’s not just cycling. You’re something like 400 times more likely to win an Olympic gold medal if you’re asthmatic. Asthma drugs enhance your performance. It really isn’t rocket science to connect the two.

Until people stop defending and making excuses for it, then no sport will be clean. Or we accept that it happens and level the playing field so everyone does it. Either way, Froome and Armstrong between them have less tour wins than the amount of fucks I give.

Just stay the fuck off the road ya Lycra wearing fucking menace!!!

Until people stop defending and making excuses for it, then no sport will be clean. Or we accept that it happens and level the playing field so everyone does it. Either way, Froome and Armstrong between them have less tour wins than the amount of fucks I give.

Yes I will be watching it, the Grand Tours are one of my favourite sporting events of the year and the Tour De France is the apex of them all.

"

Personally I watch it for the scenery.

Clueless

Really! Do the cyclist who had to take said drugs need now to take the same drugs once they've stopped competiting, such as Wiggins with his hayfever?

Dude you have not got a clue.

I used to be a long distance endurance athlete taking part in long distance triathlons ...

And I suffer badly from exercise induced asthma.

It's when the body is at its limits and puts additional strain on the lungs at this point my lungs turn into rice pudding and breathing is next to impossible . however a few poofs on my inhaler and hey presto.

It's similar with hay fever not as bad but basically when I am training when pollen count is high the hayfever triggers asthma.

Now I have stopped the only thing I have to take regularly is antihistamines due to our cat's.

So you are openly admiting that you took drugs to improve your performance!"

He took prescribed drugs to ensure he didn't die.

They’ve discovered with the current test for salbutamol there is a high probability it can prove false positives. This was put to the UCI, it tested this theory themselves and they agreed, so the case was thrown out.

Because he took salbutamol..... you know like he’s allowed to and the amount in his system is consistent with the amount he was permitted to use. At least that’s my reading of the results of the investigation. It’s certainly the view of the person who designed the test for salbutamol.

Tests also don't take into account levels of dehydratio and levels found would not have given Froome any gains over his competitors.

The revised levels of what needs investigating also don't explain why, if the levels were so far out there haven't been countless other infringements.

I'm not convinced by any of it but given every grand tour of tge last 30 years, and I think it might be every podium position has been discredited by a positive or pretty clear links to a doping scandal I'm genuinely past caring.

I love the tour but I don't believe in any of it in the slightest. Certainly not the GC riders.

Well no he was way over the limit. And other riders have been suspended for less than he tested for. And 9 months later the limits were revised significantly and we all lived happily ever after.

Laughable you’re comparing the two. We’re talking about an inhaler, that has zero effect on performance to what Armstrong was doing, EPO, three blood transfusions per Tour.

I've always prefered the track and one day races to GTs but I'd agree the Giro and on occasion the vuelta are far better than the tour. The tour suffers because riders race for second or third rather than risk losing everything by winning.

I have faith in Yates as the way he blew in the Giro was so dramatic And even though I don't believe in him tge way Froome won tbe Giro rather than setting for the podium was awesome to watch and tge sort of racing that us rarely seen anymore

And what other effect does large doses of salbutamol have which may benefit a cyclist? Weightloss.

And coincidentally SKY have just published data about froome's weightloss data for the giro, a plan that is so high risk as to be near unbelievable. Every single cyclist thay finishes a GT loses weight. But SKY can somehow control the weightloss without impacting on recovery.

Not every drug is EPO. Most are much more subtle that's why the banned list is fucking huge.

I know you said that you had read up in this but have you missed the whole point as to why froome has been so desperate to prove that it was possible to have such high levels of salbutamol in his urine from an inhalor that he had only only used 8 times in 12 hours?

The levels he tested for are consistent with ingesting it. Which is why other riders have served bans for reporting far less than froome did

Do you know how far over the limit his original adverse analytical funding was?

The reason he got off is because the levels were subsequently changed by a significant amount.

It's a bit like getting caught doing 43 in a 30 zone and then getting the speed limit changed to 40 and getting off as you were just over.

There are plenty of articles detailing the whole tineline but tge links aren't permitted here.

On this point well yes he was 19% over the threshold once dehydration is taken into account. The only change to the threshold is the dehydration calculation which has always been part of the testing system for good and obvious reasons. The thing that changed is that it was shown that it’s possible to exceed the threshold whilst taken within the prescribed limits. This was shown to the point where the original scientist who suggested the threshold testified on froomes behalf.

Agreed, too much flat for the first week. At least tease the GC guys with a few sharp lumps to get the legs burning.

I like G for yellow but think his descending is a bit sketchy at times, takes risks which see him sliding on his arse more than he should. For me, the tour starts now. I'm not as interested in the sprinters as I am the GC mountain goats.

Tbh it's been a fairly tame first week,up until yesterday that is.

That was brutal just glad it was dry otherwise it would have been mayhem.

That said it was one of the most exciting flat stages I have ever seen.

Hate to say it but I think Cavendish is a spent force, maybe the hunger isn't there anymore he's always been a moody sod but seems very cranky this year.

Team sky and froome have been playing a waiting game although I think they would have preferred froome higher in the GC than he currently is G is very well placed but let's see how he fairs in the mountains.

It's still very open though.

I really like the coverage too and put it on all day

Unbelievable athletes - it’s superb viewing watching guys take the front whilst others crack

A colleague takes his camper van and tries to take in 5 stages or more has done so for years

I recon they will handle it just fine, Froome was quite happy to let G go, he wasn’t called back so I’d say they were quite happy to let him ride on for the win

Hopefully they'll have learnt from the fuck ups that were the 2011 Vuelta that Froome should have won and 2012 Tour that Froome could esily have won.

Movistar have shown how easy it is to fuck up, at the start of the day they had 3 leaders and now 1.

In some ways it's the ideal situation but in others it's at best difficult. And in a worst case scenario it's an absolute nightmare, Roche vs Visinitini and Lemond vs Hinault being the most extreme examples (not that SKY would ever let that sortt of all out war happen) that said they were gret races for a spectator!

Not sure anyone will ever admit it but I think that was job done for Cav, he was only ever at the tour to hang on as long as he can and get some hard racing miles in his legs after almost a year out and 2 big smashes. He knew he hasd limited form and he;s ben\e hampered by a leadout train that;s not functioned at all.

I think he's not quite finished but certainly on the wain. Kittel was also eliminated today after 5 wins last year.

As an aside what has happened to Cav's team mate Cummings? Been quiet all year and no word as to why

The French TV coverage has been particularly bad only showing sky/ froome when they absolutely had to.

Really enjoyable stage today, a sky 1 ,2 on the winner's podium would be great.

Both nice guys but experienced rider's and know the score regards team orders, that said Thomas may never get a chance again, still alot of miles before Paris, a puncture,a simple mechanical or a crash can change the tour results instantly.

i brilliant situation for sky... a nightmere for everyone else...

all that will probably happen is that they will take turns in attacking and let all the other teams do the work in catching them

they wont need to mark each other... the other teams will have to do that for them...

anyway it will come down to the individual time trial the day before the end........

Im not an avid fan of the tour but Thomas is well overdue his chance, been a domestique so often & has had a few bumps along the way, may also pay Sky to favour him over Froome due to the negative media it would no doubt cause.

Not a chance, the Giro Tour double is a very exclusive club. As is 5 times winners. He's not going to give that up easily. Problem Brailsford has got is that G also wants the win but has never ridden well for an entire 3 weeks. And a rider who is a better time triallist than either of them is snapping at their heels so letting the race play out and decide itself is not a great plan

it will come down to the time trial the day before the end....

if G is leading with Froome and Demoulin in striking range....with the time differences they have at the moment, Demoulin will win!!

froome is an excellent time trialer but demoulin is next level on a different planet at the moment

sky at some point are going to have to try and break demoulin in the mountains...he is the weakest of the climbers! yates did it in the giro, but broke himself in the process before froome broke everyone with the 80km solo break of his life to win it.... but with only 2 summit finishes left (the stage on saturday and the super short stage on wednesday) they are going to have to try and shift him...

Yes I can't see anyone else challenging. Nibali clearly had the legs but is out, Bardet, couldn't ride a decent TT if his life depended on it and has lost too many team mates. The Movistar challenge is dead, non of them have the legs to push for the overall and the two LottoNL riders will be happy with their current positions.

That said G always has a bad day and no one for years has come close to pulling off a decent tour after finishing the giro so it could all change

problem with that is that they are not far enough of demoulin to play the waiting game....so thats why i think both froome and thomas will have have stabs to see if they can break him today....

i wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-2 punch today.... froome go first, see what demoulin does... if he catches froome then thomas will go, if demoulin looks rough then thomas will attack and froome will wait up the road for him....

It's been a really odd tour and certainly one of the dullest in recent years despite the cracking Roubaix stage and G s win on duez.

Personally I put it down to tighter drug controls, what we are seeing is a far more even tour in that in the days of massive drug use people such as pantani, Armstrong and the likes where able to launch massive attacks be it defending a lead or trying to chase someone.

That said I would take a boring clean race over a drug laden one.

the difference between the tour and the giro, is that the giro over the last few years has put in a lot more mountain stages... and more crucially summit finishes, this year i think the tour only has 3... the risk/reward element of a mountain attack just isn't there this year.....
