From recruiting quite a few staff over time most lie so i stopped looking at cv. Someone once told me they invented google.

No, I never have and never would. Most of my career is easily verified by a Google search. In my field I am well known. If I faked anything it would be spotted immediately and my reputation would be lost.

I have spotted CVs with fake experience and haven't shortlisted those people and I have had to withdraw two job offers when it emerged that information given was false.

Never lied on a cv. The last job I interviewed for and didn't get they gave feedback that I didn't big myself up enough. Maybe I should have claimed I invented the Internet

One was qualifications - necessary for the role. One was on role and experience. They had worked at the organisation claimed but in a more junior role than stated.

I've never lied on my CV and never will.

Reality is the "liars" eventually become unstuck. In my business field of Hotels, Hospitality and Catering, it's actually a very "small world" and people will know people. Lying will achieve nothing.

I've never lied or felt a need to but I do withhold grades and dates as grades for GCSEs not great and dates now have a large gap due to illness. I think experience and keeping informed and updated in your interest is more relevant then how long you have been out of work. I've been self employed so my skills are quite vast

Maybe the same type of things my 17 and 18 year old wrote on their CV.

* volunteer work

* Help with a charity

* work experience from any kind of legal business.

All will show within any future interview you show initiative, consideration, works well with others / on your own and you have ambition.

Most think teens and young adults these days are lazy and come with a entilited attitude. Be different, show you don't !

No never have lied when I was 16 my parents got a company who was near where we lived who produced cv to professional standard ( at time I had no idea what went into a cv) the company asked me to send info on school and subjects, work experience, hobbies and references ( stuff find in cv) and they produced my first cv. Since then I have always done my own but used the format which I have been told is sleek and direct.

I helped a friend with his cv recently as he was frustrated he applied for lots jobs but had no reply, when I looked at it it read like the ones you see on the apprentice show omg the bullshit he put and stuff I was laughing loads. He obviously didn’t understand why I was laughing an got pissed at me later when I explained he said he seen the apprentice and read on line the best new style is to big self and make it bigger than life.

So I changed his cv so similar design to mine he sent 3 off for job got 2 interviews and took one of em as a job.

Moral is no need to lie it looks better and gives right impression to employers

Depends on the role. A decent interviewer will be able to tell if you have lied about experience or competencies. If it is about dates of employment, a few months is not such an issue as people can't be expected to remember exact dates/years.

Lying on a CV can be constituted as fraud, especially if you inflate your current wage to get more from a new employer.

I would expect anyone applying for a job to re-write their CV to make themselves more suitable for the position, but that’s not lying that’s just advertising your relevant skill set.

Some firms will also ask you to prove qualifications. I nearly lost a short term contract as I couldn’t supply proof of my O Levals (I was 49 at the time). Luckily the director told his HR to stop being so stupid and get the offer sorted. Again all to do with miscrepresentation, which is fraud.

We marched an "engineer" off site after 2 days as when faced with a machine he had said he was familiar with needed servicing he had no idea how to even isolate it; was a case of get your tools, give me your pass and fuck off out the gate

5 years and going strong. You make an assumption that the HR monkeys know what skills are important for every tyoe of job. Sometimes they get it wrong and we need to tell them what they want to hear so we can get on and get some real work done.

I have never all out lied on my cv. I always put my qualifications at the end because my I am QBE. 4.5 years at a start up, 9.5 years at a major multinational and 15 months at a very large accounting firm. I have done a number of roles at that time.

I maybe have said I have managed interns rather than mentoring them. I still wrote their appraisal for my manager at the time. I think it is ok to expand the truth and I always round my current pay up to salary brackets like if I was on 33500 I would say 35000 (I am not on that just saying)

When asking for a new salary I always add 10% minimum if the hours are the same or factor hours and add 10% on. I always state my bonus as well.

Exactly this. Some people think they wont get a job if they dont know something. If they are wanted, companies train them. On my CV I've noted that I have experience with workshop machinary, but not listed what. And also "minimal experience with computor programmes (Auto-CAD, Photoshop, Illustrator). No idea what I'm doing with photoshop or Auto-Cad, but I have used them. Honesty is always a safe play

Not 21, but close (only one year).

My CV lists my skills, which ranges from Blacksmithing, leather working, foam crafting, set building, design, experience with workshop machinary, calligraphy, ect. Also list down my work experience as my uni course was heavy on work placement (I was lucky to get some fantastic placements). I also list down my hobbies, as that can give a glimpse of the kind of person you are. Never list down gaming. You can also use your hobbies for skills. Im a table top gamer, so use "meet with friends regularly to work on building team working skills). And as everyone else says, tailor your CV.
