"Do you have one where you are? Do you run the risk of still using one of there is one in place where you live? Do you use water butts or buckets in your garden Ss " Don't have a bad but wouldn't risk it anyway, water butts are now empty. Just water the pots and tomato plants with a watering can. Most other stuff, although looking sorry for itself will recover. Can't see the point in watering grass. dry weather won't kill it. when you think of what it has been developed from (wild grasses from very hot and arid climates) I suspect a wild fire wouldn't harm it in the long run. #savewater, drinkwhiskyneat

Sprinklers on that come on I'm assuming on a timer for a lawn that's already half dead. I'm very much for saving water where I possibly can. Washing up bowl I don't throw that down the sink, it goes on the flowers or veg beds. But watering cans I use. I'd love to have a water butt, but moving around so often it's not worth it.

"We rarely use the hose on the garden. Our water butts were empty so we filled them from the tap (not as daft as it sounds). We use watering cans and empty the washing up water on the vegetables. Our front garden is horrible now, so dry." Washing up water is good for roses as it kills the aphids. Check out the RHS website, great tips on there. You are going to have to explain the tap water in the water butt to me though, unless it is to stop the plants getting a shock from cold water.

"Water butts!. It hasn't rained here for oooo like 6 weeks, maybe longer. And I mean no rain, not a sausage " I must admit, I've always thought of water butts as a little nonsensical. They're full in the winter when you don't need it and empty in the summer when you do lol. We don't have a nose pipe ban here yet, and near on 6 weeks without a single drop of rain. Wondering if it's an old urban myth but would I be exempt from a ban as I have a pond that needs to be topped up??

"No bans here in Leeds yet." . Where does Leeds get its main supply from? I know ours comes from the lake District, is it the same there. I was walking around the three reservoirs on woodhead pass the other week, there disturbingly low

We find them really handy and have three.

"What did I miss? Just been jet washing the patio and cars. Until a hosepipe ban comes in (which I will respect) I’m keeping my garden alive my vegetable patch ticking over and my horses water topped up to the brim. I pay for it so I will use it. " There are an awful lot of metaphors packed into that -an absolute GEM

"I rigged up a butt to collect grey water. Just a couple of showers and it’s full.. it’s surprising how much water gets wasted... using it on the gardens to keep them going.. I have a large garden and the grass is all brown, it’ll come back. " We did the same. You must have long showers or a small water butt. No offence implied.

Our shower pipe is too low, I'd love to be able to direct that on to the garden.
