Hi folks as my life moves on I am seeing again and again how poor my attention to detail is. My daughter was recently diagnosed with Autism. I’m

Wondering is there a link! Or a possible link. It’s becoming a real issue for me in work.

.

A link to poor attention to detail and autism? Yes, there is but one autistic person isn't like another - there are so many elements that add up to a diagnosis. If it's truly concerning you, speak to your GP and see if you can get a referral for a multi-disciplinary assessment. Try and be as open as possible with the GP, it will help later. Good luck OP!

Yes a lot does come down to genetics but if you think you’re to blame then don’t. It will only lead you to a very dark place. Just learn the best coping strategies you can and provide the best care for your daughter. She’s going to need you to be strong for her. X

Is it a recent thing or have you always lacked attention to detail?

since my son was diagnosed 5 yrs ago I have noticed certain traits that we share but I am not overly concerned about whether I have it or not.... I've come this far without having attracted any labels so I will just carry on being there for my boy

I have always lacked it. Plus I am very poor at starting and finishing tasks. I suppose I’ve just recently “accepted it”. It’s a major concern for me.

We all have traits if you look for it. Does it impair your life. You can always see your gp but getting a diagnosis as an adult can be very difficult depending on your area as it’s hit and miss. X

You will have other traits that may back up your thoughts.

I have an autistic son and I would have said that his attention to detail is heightened.

I'm a design engineer.

We are often described as autistic because of our attention to detail.

But autism is a spectrum condition and is totally unique to the individual.

I would go to the doctors and try and get a diagnosis as a previous poster said.

Then it’s definitely worth chasing a diagnosis. Good luck with that I have two adult sons I’m just going through diagnosis with after years of trying x

"How would a diagnosis help? "

I would have thought that if it was the correct diagnosis (not always given on first examination), then the medication might help reduce the cause of whatever is causing him to post this.

I've not long had a week in hospital with pneumonia, that ain't fun
