It pisses me off if truth be told! But females that go on the sick, ie actively lie to their GP to get a sick line, as they are not going to go in saying'boo hoo' I have just broken up with my BF can you writ me a sick line?

This really pisses me off, I'm like get over it and concentrate on something else, I have never heard of men doing thing this, am I delusional have you done this in the past? Should doctors delve deeper or will they just get constant bullshit , it pisses me off that some know how to rock the system and use it their advantage but also think they are entitled to it!

So apparently 'work state expectation'

* is just the norm

You don't need a sick note for 1 say. You can self certify for 7.

I guess if they are very upset and work in an emotionally fraught environment it would be better for them to take some time.

It just annoys me in general when people lie to the Dr to get time off sick, never known anyone do it because a relationship has broken down.

I know someone that was diagnosed with fibromyalgia by a locum that they'd never seen before, well you'd think they'd won the lottery and she milks it for everything it's worth now. Worse bit about it is that it tarnishes the illness for all those that genuinely have it.

I was signed off for six months once. If you looked at me you wouldn't have seen anything wrong and I'm sure one or two people reckoned I was swinging the lead. I wasn't I had terrible back problems but you can't see pain. Physical or emotional.

I recall one doctor telling me to soldier through. Then he couldn't find a reflex in my right ankle...soon changed his tune .

Anyway, I'm pretty sure some people can pull the wool over doctors eyes. However most gps I've had contact with can sniff out a malingerer at forty paces.

"People get signed off because a relationship has broken up?"

Too many people are abusing sick days. A workmate is going on holiday for two weeks Friday night and has already told me he's pulling a sicky Thurs. I'm his workmate but felt like banging his head off the table cause we have to pick up the slack. He's not the only one to tell me days in advance that they were going to pull sick days. I'd never rat them out but fucking hell man the fuck up and do your job. Id say 75% of my work place get two weeks sick pay a year regardless if they're really sick. They just ask the manager can the have a week off in July in June and if its booked already then they'll just go out sick that week anyway. I've never taken one sick day in my life. Hopefully I'm never sick enough to miss work but lads sneeze once and take two days off work. They celebrate hurting a knee or wrist which means they can't be that hurt cause you wouldn't be happy if you were.

The root cause of which was a relationship break up.

I recall being mightily impressed as a 12 year old when a girl in the sixth form had to be taken to the medical room in a state of collapse because her boyfriend had finished with her. She had really long hair, wore eyeliner and a cape and had an exotic name that I've forgoten

It's not always clinical depression. I guess in some way it's similar to the loss of a loved one depending on the circumstances of the break up. I've never done it but providing they didn't take the piss I'd wear a day for someone going through some shit. Like I said, you don't have to get signed off for the first 7 days anyway.

Remember the days when the unions used to tell you to take sick leave as you were entitled to 10 days?

Me either, but someone told me about them.

Ages ago someplace I worked you could never get holidays when you wanted them and people of both sexes would just take sickies instead. Also because a sickness counted as 1 sickness no matter how many days, they would take 4-6 weeks off at a time.
