I figure we must all fit into a group that gets made fun of at some point (I appreciate not to the same extent or with malice as some) but what is yours?

I'm chubby, I wear glasses, I had acne as a teen and still get damn breakouts occasionally. I'm female. I'm Scottish.

Are you offended when jokes are made about that group?

I don't get personally offended by jokes... a lot of them go over my head anyway, but I hate it when you see so called jokes made out of tragedies like Grenfell or Madeleine McCann. I'm aware that the emergency services use very dark humour sometimes to help them cope with the awful stuff they have to deal with but that's usually kept private. Others who make capital out of unimaginable misery in a kind of 'look at me, I'm so radical' kind of way with their twisted remarks plastered all over social media make me feel very uncomfortable indeed and yes, I do find that kind of thing offensive and disrespectful.

Jokes need victim's to work, things about someone stupidity I thing is fair game, but the stuff that's an act of god or born to be is off limits. I get the need for gallows humour, and generally people in that situation do so as a result of stress as you said.

Rudeness, in any form is a no-no in our book, one couple we played with, the man was putting his partner down a lot. Not fun, not necessary, and not a situation we would want to be a part of again. Needless to say not on our playlist anymore.

I wouldn’t mind but I’ve worked in some appalling areas outside of Liverpool...I wouldn’t dream of making derogatory comments about where anyone lives.

Here and There

I'm fat, a single parent, struggle with bouts of depression and Lord knows how many other things that could get me mocked.

I don't get offended by much if anything I can think of straight away. My humour is a 'tad' dark twisted, sarcastic and sadistic though so I'd probably be the one cracking the jokes about myself first.

Life is hard enough at times I have to laugh through it. That's what keeps me sane (ish)

When people intentionally or accidentally genuinely upset others and don't stop when that person makes it apparent that they aren't finding it funny then I believe that's crossing the line. The line is different for everyone though so gauging that is the important factor.

I don’t like it when people say they’ve been bullied on here. I feel that it trivialises bullying. I don’t see evidence of people actually being bullied on here. It seems it’s usually a comment that has offended or been personal and whilst that isn’t great, it certainly isn’t bullying. It’s an easy word to be banded about without people fully understanding what it actually is and how people can be affected by it. I suppose it does offend me.... or makes me tut loudly at least.

In a world where people get banned for posting in upper case, that comment is still there so it can't have been that bad. It was frivolous bur fairly harmless. Anybody who thinks otherwise is being a bit wet.

The N word is almost exclusively used by black people , to such an extent that I’ve had to try and block so much music from our 11 year old from hearing .

Every other black rapper from 50 cent and Dr Dre to Xibit and Ice T seems to revel in using it and it’s bloody hard work explaining why it’s such a bad word to use to an impressionable 11 year old .

Disagree with the exclusive part, but the rest is bang on. No need to use it, I don't get the whole we "reclaimed" it thing and using it as a term of endearment. There are so many other words that could be used instead.

Most social and psychological theories argue that humour/jokes reflect wider visions and cannot really exist without meaning. Freud posited that radical jokes sort of maintain social order or should I say, try to maintain the implicit classism put in place by certain social classes, while others serve the purpose of rebellion against that said social order.

I am not offended by jokes per se but the tone of voice used when doing a 'joke' is important to draw the line between a joke and a real opinion offline.

On social media, I usually look at the reccurence of those 'jokes' in order to see if they are tinted with real opinions or not. Sometimes people use sarcasm to underline the stupidity of some political/social or racial opinions.

"Most social and psychological theories argue that humour/jokes reflect wider visions and cannot really exist without meaning. Freud posited that radical jokes sort of maintain social order or should I say, try to maintain the implicit classism put in place by certain social classes, while others serve the purpose of rebellion against that said social order.

"

Indeed they do, but i find their analysis thoroughly incomplete. It can't explain why there are so many Jewish comedians making fun of the holocaust, for example. Most humour i enjoy is either trying to heal past wounds or observational humour that makes people think about things that take for granted.

I don't think I really get offended. But, like everyone else, I get triggered by stuff which upsets or angers me. I would list them but I see people on this thread who aren't that nice. So I'm not gonna give them ammo.

More on the offensive side of things I suppose is when someone cracks into my spiritual beliefs as being delusional and idiotic but insists they're not attacking me personally. This is the equivalent of saying "not meaning to offend you but...", in that you know the person really is trying to offend you, but they're trying to do so in a way that they can slip away from coolly and claim you're a hot head by getting upset. So yeah... that kind of stuff can be offensive. But that's largely because it's meant to be offensive

I don't get offended, more fed up, of the constant lumping of entire groups together, and then expecting people of that group to 'call the others out'.

The current favourite is 'men'. Yep, there are some men who are arseholes. But because Harvey Weinstein behaved appallingly, it doesn't equate that I'm the same just because we have similarly fashioned genitals.

It annoys me that if I don't vociferously condemn other men, I must be a misogynist as well.

It pisses me off that if I point out NAMALT (not all men are like that) then I've missed the point and am part of the problem.

I just want to go about my business without having to be a fucking social warrior because I have bollocks.

It's Thursday. It's rant day. And I've just been told I'm part of the problem for minding my own business.

"I don’t like it when people say they’ve been bullied on here.

I've seen groups of people gang up on a single person.

Me too!

Which, in my eyes, is bullying."

I was bullied all through school for being fat. I used to be so self conscious and had very low self esteem.

I learned to laugh at myself, and over time I’ve gained a lot of confidence.

Although it’s true, I would be very offended if a stranger called me fat/fatty etc. But not so much if it was one of my friends as we all make fun of each other (to a certain degree).

My views on offence/being offended are well documented.

It's a subject I cover in my lectures, together with what it means, what happens and how to deal with it.

I'm not easily offended, even when people tell me I know fuck all about a subject I've studied to a high level of education.

I simply think they know fuck all about me, what or where I've studied, and that it doesn't make me the idiot.

I dislike people who behave with disrespect for others, by talk or whatever. There are usually more intelligent ways of expression but often silence is golden. I love comedy and jokes but there's a wealth of material, without resorting to putting others down, abuse or alienation.

It's better to make fun of yourself than others, as long as it's not a proxy for hurting someone.

"I don't get personally offended by jokes... a lot of them go over my head anyway, but I hate it when you see so called jokes made out of tragedies like Grenfell or Madeleine McCann. "

I pretty much have a dark sense of humour, but tell me a joke re child abuse and you'll wish the ground would open up and swallow you. There are just some things that are never meant to be joked about.

It's very difficult to offend me.

Any comments people make about my looks or personality don't bother me at all.

Even if people I care about have certain opinions of me it doesn't bother me. I am who I am and all I try to be is at least a semi-decent person.

And opinions people have of others doesn't matter to me really. Even if I disagree with it. I just try to educate rather than be offended by their opinions or prejudices.

Also I have a very dark sense of humour so that sort of thing doesn't phase me.

I think the only thing that doesn't offend me but slightly annoys me is people who act like they are stupid as if its cute to be dense and also people who make assumptions based on things people can't control.

Or sad pathetic people who spread rumours and make up random crap about you. But if anything I find it more funny than annoying that they have nothing better to do than to make stuff up.
