"My (male, if that makes a difference) friends insisted that fruit does NOT (in general) go with cheese." They’re really very wrong. I’ve never ordered a cheeseboard in a restaurant and not had it come with grapes. Then there’s, as you point out, Brie and cranberry, cheddar and apple. Most cheese and chutney sets have got a fair few fruity chutneys in there. You could be pedantic and point out that tomato is a fruit, and cheese and tomato is a staple. I like Stilton and grapes with port. Smoked cheese and a Pink Lady apple are the perfect accompaniment to a hoppy IPA. A cheese and raspberry (or strawberry, if you’re that way inclined) jam sandwich is the bees knees. | |||
