Cheese and Fruit...not a euphemism

So, got into a debate with friends about the relative merits of cheese with fruit.

My (male, if that makes a difference) friends insisted that fruit does NOT (in general) go with cheese.

I beg to differ.

NOT that I'd appreciate grapefruit with a nice bleu, but....Camembert with cranberry? Cheddar and apple? Brie and strawberry?

I just love cheese of any sort, and fruit sweetens it all up.

What's you opinion?

Cheese and fruit? yay or nay?

Not for me. Consumed separately, delicious.

Put together just tastes wrong for my tastebuds

Grapes and Apple are nice with cheese.

Cheese and pineapple on a stick are the nuts.

Devine when combined with apples, especially if the apples are in a pint of cold stowfords cider

I had cheese and pineapple (left over from pizza making) tonight, lovely!

Absolutely not, cheese should be unadulterated.

"My (male, if that makes a difference) friends insisted that fruit does NOT (in general) go with cheese."

They’re really very wrong. I’ve never ordered a cheeseboard in a restaurant and not had it come with grapes.

Then there’s, as you point out, Brie and cranberry, cheddar and apple. Most cheese and chutney sets have got a fair few fruity chutneys in there.

You could be pedantic and point out that tomato is a fruit, and cheese and tomato is a staple.

I like Stilton and grapes with port. Smoked cheese and a Pink Lady apple are the perfect accompaniment to a hoppy IPA. A cheese and raspberry (or strawberry, if you’re that way inclined) jam sandwich is the bees knees.
