"I’m not a feminist, I’m a person. I expect to be given the same rights as the next person. Apart from golf of course where us ladies have the advantage of teeing off closer " Yes... and the tennis matches, where you get equal prize money for less games...…..hmmmmm, not very equal after all is it?

"Okay, who should be reading/listening to? Do me a recommend this person, that person, this source, that source. Equality and feminism." Caitlin Moran is rarely wrong about anything. She should probably be in charge of everything. And must have articles on feminism out there. I’d post a link, but I was banned recently for posting a totally innocuous link.

"Not explicitly about feminism, but Cordelia Fine's "Delusions of Gender" is a great book dissecting and discrediting the history of "scientific" attempts to portray men and women as these vastly different beings - 'men are better at spacial awareness', 'men are more naturally good with numbers' kinda stuff. " I wouldn't say she discredits it. She just points out some exceptions to the rules and correctly calls out journalists who misrepresent science. She doesn't prove the case that Men and women are essential the same.

" You used a very vauge term that Men and women a "aren't vastly different", whatever that means. I don't want to get bogged down in semantics, but they aren't vastly different at the mean, but they are at the tail of the distribution, which she acknowledges. Even at the mean, there are differences of 0.33 which have pretty big implications, which again - she acknowledges.

"Equality doesn't mean same But it does..." No, equality is about treating people so the outcome is the same. There is a difference.

"Equality doesn't mean same But it does... No, equality is about treating people so the outcome is the same. There is a difference. " No equality is about giving everyone the same rights and opportunities.

"Equality doesn't mean same But it does... No, equality is about treating people so the outcome is the same. There is a difference. " The equality act 2010 was anti-discrimination legislation, meaning that it gives the same opportunities rather than outcomes. Expecting the same outcomes in niave in the extreme for the reasons talkingstove and I have already discussed on this thread.

"The annoying thing about academia is the repetition of other people’s views. The peer reviewed system is just an establishment hierarchy that does nothing but stifle fresh creative thinking through conformity. Feminism is a tool to divide and sets men and women as adversaries. The real battle is the battle between rich and poor. Most injustices between the genders are caused by economic constraints. Women who want children have their careers effected by having children and contrary to what most feminists say some women enjoy the roll of being a mother, but are made to feel that to enjoy being a mother makes you a failure. Most people at the end of their life don’t wish they’d spent more time at work, they yearn to have worked less and spent more time with those they loved. " So what reading material etc are you recommending? That’s what I’m asking for.

"The annoying thing about academia is the repetition of other people’s views. The peer reviewed system is just an establishment hierarchy that does nothing but stifle fresh creative thinking through conformity. " It's worse than that. It's a filter on what we have 'facts' for and so any subjects that aren't useful to certain narratives, won't get funding. Therefore every view on them will be relegated to the status of an opinion, whilst the truth is obvious to almost everyone.

Peer reviewed is often accepted as absolute truth/proof when it is is in reality heavily biased with vested interests.
