"It's my fanny that takes a bashing in spin classes, find myself having to stand more which then knackers me out more. Last time I did one with my friend it was a day after a legs session in the gym and I was fucked, the instructor got off her bike and came over to me and turned my resistance right down, and just shook her head and said I'm disappointed with you! Made me feel awful!" I'd quite like to try a spin class. Think of the upper body workout is get trying to crawl to my car afterwards lol

Kettle bells and body pump are my favourite classes. Body pump would be good for you cos you do marathons, bodypump is lighter weights but higher repetition so it's more for endurance.

Someone I know took a guy who thought he was the mutts at fitness to a body pump class and he nearly threw up lol

My first class years ago, you get these little mini barbells and when it came to doing squats I thought right well I can squat 70kg so I loaded up my barbell with the green weights 5kg each and I had 20kg in total, barbell only weighs about 4lbs, but of course you ain't doing 3 sets of 12 with a little rest in between like you would in the gym, it's continuous and anything from 60-100 reps. I had to stop cos I could feel the chunks rising and my mouth started filling with water But it is a good class!

"It sounds like you’re a mixture of lacking cardiovascular fitness which will improve the more that you do it and maybe lacking a little in lung capacity? If you’ve recently had a cold or chest infection it will affect your lung capacity for a while after. I run frequently and did struggle with my breathing. I found that finding my base pace and focussing on my breathing at that point helped to even my breaths out, then as you exert yourself further you can keep your breathing more even. The urge is to take short breaths but by concentrating on longer ones it will help to extend them and in turn help to slow your heart rate... Sorry for the long answer! " No very much appreciated, rather than focusing on weights at the gym tomorrow, I'm going to hop onto a bike for abit and see how I feel and try and concentrate on my breathing while on it

Im going to give the class a few more goes and see how I feel, then maybe invest in padded bottoms, it could well be I'm just not fit enough for spin

Ironically enough I’ve found that the harder I find a class or activity the more I need to do it if I’m going to improve. Don’t just focus on spin classes though, try a HIIT class or a BLT class in there too. Mixing it up gives your body different things to do so allows rest to various muscle groups but also pushes your fitness. No, you won’t thank me for this advice, not for a few weeks anyway...

Maybe I'm might be allowed to bring an oxygen tank and mask in with me next time

"So I know it's a silly topic, but done a spin class for the 2nd time, and while my legs are holding up, but my breathing just wrecks me.... Any tips on how to keep my breathing abit less erratic and not feeling like I'm about to have a heart attack during the class " It seems spinning has not been explained properly to you ? Sounds like you are doing it correctly The whole point is for maximal heart rate If you did not feel the way you do are NOT doing it right It is designed for heart health not so much muscle condition although that will me course happen The heart is a muscle quite happy at x bpm, thus to improve you have to push it beyond x This should be explaind at the class Spinning NEVER NEVER EVER becomes easier EVER , you may go faster or push more resistance but the effort given should always be Maximal thus you will ALWAYS feel totally drained and just like your gasping your last breath !

"I’ve only done spinning a couple of times. I swear I thought my lungs were going to come out my mouth. Chickened out and never went back. I really need to do more cardio though " Thank god someone else feels that way !! I swear to god the spin bikes are in a square room and in one row around each wall So I can't even hide in a back row where I can secretly die for a few mins lol
