little house on the praire

If so what makes you so? Is there anything in your power to change it?

This got me thinking as its 7 months since my stepdad died and although my mum leads an active life i coaxed my mum to go out of her comfortzone and go on holiday.

Shes on a coach trip to kendal and there where three other ladies around her age on their own and theyve palled up together and shes having a great time

I've been alone most of my life now. I get lonely sometimes but I can't imagine coping with having someone around all the time.

I have been thinking about going on a group holiday type thing as I never have anyone to go on holiday with.

I always used to holiday alone but the best one I ever went on was a coach tour to the west coast of America...still the best holiday I ever had, still got friends I met on it and it was over 20 yrs ago....

I would recommend it

i think one of those holidays would suit you. My next door neighbour is always of on them shes just been to canada for 2 and 1/2 weeks

I'm not sure I could do a coach, or a coach full of people, for that length of time.

I enjoy my own company and having only just moved into my own home in December so I do enjoy my own space... but to be honest I do miss that physical contact... cuddles...kisses.. holding hands.. so sometimes that makes me feel lonely!! But I see friends when I can and my family and have my son half the week which is great!!

I feel lonely sometimes although I can be quite reclusive so it's kinda my own doing!

I do identify when I need to go engage with people though and force myself to do it.

Depends what you call lonely. I have a good social life, I like my own company, or better yet being alone with my animals - other people just mess up the connection there. But I know myself well enough to know I very much want a permanent partner, and I feel the lack of him 24/7, I am someone who functions best when I am deeply bonded.

Alone in the cave with my dogs is a place to escape the world. And better to be alone than with someone who doesn't want to be with you

just back from 14 nights alone in spain was never short of company.

I think people talk themselves out of just chatting with folk

I have lived alone for 10 years, I love it. If I feel at a loose end, I have lots of people I can land on.

I can't ever imagine sharing my space with another person, another life full of compromises. I'm a happy bunny.

I talk to strangers all the time. I've driven myself around North and South Islands in NZ and do go away alone every March. It's more that I would have someone to share the experience with.

Oh I imagine you're really pleased to hear about your Mum having a great time on her trip.

Loneliness can be a terrible thing, I used to be, but I made changes in my life so that I no longer was lonely. You need to be pro active and get out there, as hard as it may be.

Yes. I get times when I feel lonely. All my close family have died, I've never known my extended family. I have my son but he's at the age when hes not interested. I had a huge amount of close friends that were like family but I moved away to look after my last relative that died 2 weeks ago so I'm feeling pretty lonely at the minute. And I hate being on a downer as I'm usually the one keeping everyone else happy

Maybe from this I group could be formed? Yes we are all here for our love of sex but as some of us should be decent human beings helping another in a low point in their lives has to be a priority!!

Dear god I feel alone. This latest bout of depression started when the #metoo campaign started, because it kicked up a lot of bad memories for me.

It was exasperated by my girlfriend at the time clearly drifting away from me while telling me everything is ok when it really wasn't, as well as not really caring for my feelings with it all.

All this happening just before Christmas just ramped it all up. I had a horrible one this time around, and I don't usually enjoy Christmas anyway, so that just added to it all.

I ended up starting to see a girl, and fell for her quick and hard. I felt things were going well, but the day before mayday, while we were laid in bed, she said nonchalantly that it wasn't working out and we should stop seeing each other. That just drop kicked me back to how I was at the beginning of the year.

Unfortunately, I only really have three or four friends who make an effort to actually make sure I am ok, arrange things to do so I'm not sitting in on my own all the time, arrange to do big things that will help my wellbeing. The lack of involvement from my friends shows greatest when I say that for my last birthday, with everyone who was asked if they wanted to go, one person made it out. This is a real common occurrence for me; I'll arrange something, and people will bail or just never respond, and I'll either end up doing stuff on my own or not at all.

I really try to combat it all, but it always feels like I am fighting against the wind

I am never truly alone with still living at home but I do feel lonely on the inside.

Before I came here, I only had the one best friend who I had known since secondary school that I ever hanged out with which blossomed into a relationship which lasted seven months until she decided to stomp my heart from a great height just days before Christmas a couple of years ago.

When that happened, I felt really sad, depressed and lonely as I no longer had a friend to cheer me up when things were down.
