"Hot lemon juice water and honey and aspirin "

Out of fresh lemons. Woe is me.

I’ve got a bottle of that Sainsbury’s lemon juice somewhere in the pantry, does that work or has all the lemon health benefits been killed in the processing?

Tonsillitis is my nemesis. It’s my go to when I’m run down and stressed. I’m on day two. I’m wilfully holding on to the hope it’s the former.

"Painful swallowing, ouchy, grump-inducing painful throat.

What to do?

I've got some magic sauce that will do the trick, obviously it has to be applied liberally and regularly. "

Saucy.

"Is it a sore throat or tonsillitis?

Tonsillitis is my nemesis. It’s my go to when I’m run down and stressed. I’m on day two. I’m wilfully holding on to the hope it’s the former.

Look at the back of your throat for me...

If it is tonsillitis, call your doctor. If you get it regularly, you should have them out.

Okay.

By the way is it weird I found the phrasing of your “look at the back of your throat for me...” arousing? I think I want someone to take me in hand today and get all authoritative.

If you have white spots on your tonsils you need antibiotics ...these days surgeons are less enclined to do a tonsillectony"

Not necessarily. I had bacterial tonsilitis a couple of months ago, with the white spots. I went to bed for 2 days and took paracetamol. I fought it off without antibiotics this time.

I had a really bad dose of bacterial tonsilitis years ago and was given antibiotics. I was also taking paracetamol and told to gargle with soluble aspirin. Within two hours of starting treatment I felt well enough to vacuum my floor.

Wrong. If you have white spots on the back of your throat, doctors will insist that you have viral tonsillitis and won't give you antibiotics.

If you do get tonsillitis regularly (as in every few weeks), you can be referred to a specialist who will do a tonsillectomy if they think it will help.

I had tonsillitis for the last month. Came down with it on the 20th May, was finally given antibiotics last Monday. The Tuesday morning, I felt almost normal.

Go to a pharmacy and ask for Difflam spray. It'll numb your throat and relieve the symptoms, really helps before going to sleep.

Gargling salt / TCP mixed with water is recommended, drink ginger lemon honey tea.

Nothing works as well as Difflam.

In addition to gargling with warm salty water, eat some pineapple.

There are enzymes within the fruit that attack & kill germs in the throat; also good for colds.

I had a relative - let's call him Smith - who would recommend "Dr Smith's Hot Sperm Gargle".

Central

Aim to determine the cause - infection, allergy etc. Symptom relief and if swelling, possible anti-inflammatory.

Wash all sand off cock before deep throating.

I've gargled TCP in the past. It works, but god it is horrible. I used to use chloraseptic sprays. Again, they taste awful, but they were pretty much the only thing that would numb the soreness
