Four years after the first horrendous fire, and a year before the restoration due to complete, this beautiful outstanding building has been ravaged by fire.

So very sad to see the pictures of the fire ripping through the whole building last night, and this morning the pictures of the aftermath are truley heart breaking .

I also think it’s very odd that such a catastrophic event has occurred so soon after the last one.

The extent of the fire this time appears to be much worse, and as the fire crews did not get to the blaze until it had engulfed the whole building, it may not be possible to establish the source or cause of the fire ..

Insurers hate covering building works because things like fires occur so easily because of materials and equipment on site. I'm devastated about the Mackintosh library being destroyed again after years of restoration work. When you consider the amount of wood and varnish just on one floor of the library, combined with the likelihood that a new fire suppression system wouldnt yet have been installed as works weren't complete, its sadly easy for fire to have taken hold and spread
