£3k on a diesel will get you a decent BMW, anything up to a 330D

Or if you want a 320 they’re even cheaper, almost every other car on the road is a BMW, so their resale value is rock bottom.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

I have had a punto since new, its now got almost 200,000 on the clock and is still going strong.

30 quid a year road tax and I get around 60mpg out of it.

In the time I have had it, I have had to get the clutch replaced once and a new battery (No doubt the fucker will die tomorrow!)

Probably not the most comfortable car in the world and it doesn't stand out in a crowd but its been pretty damned reliable and the aircon cools the car in a matter of minutes.

Or even a mk3 Mondeo on a 57 with no DPF. Plenty still around and you'll save yourself nearly £2k.

I've had 3 in my time.. one petrol and two heavies and all did well. Bought for £1.8k to £3k and ran two into the ground after over 80k miles.

Look for a Ghia or Titanium as little in the price but heated and cooled leathee seats are wonderful.

The last got rear ended twice in 5 days in the snow which the 2nd at 50mph into me killed it.

Or even a mk3 Mondeo on a 57 with no DPF. Plenty still around and you'll save yourself nearly £2k.

Depends what deal you go for, If you go for a PCH the depreciation doesn’t matter. I’ve just got a Jag XF on a 36m contract for £325p/m. In 2017 over 70% of all new cars in the UK were leased.

Really explain, we Irish aren’t the brightest??. How much do you think a car depreciates when you drive it of the forecourt ? The fact you think depreciation matters in PCH leasing tells me you’re not aware of all the different options available.

Don’t delete the DPF what e er you do! Check out the new MOT rules, any smoke detected from a diesel which is supposed to have a dpf at mot time will fail.

Have a look at jaguar x type diesels.

Leasing can work out a lot every month if you have cash to buy there’s not much to pay every month.

Seal Ibiza/Leon 1.6 diesels are quite good too.

Renault Service them in the UK.

Most Manufacturers build in the former east European countries these days but the Dacias are cheap for a reason. That said it’s really down to your situation and budget. I’ve had fantastic Fords and awful Vauxhall’s , others have it the other way round.

It can be a lottery going to an auction and not for the non mechanical person but there are bargains.

are the government not slowly but surely kind of banning diesels

11 quid to enter london on top of the congestion charge

to be honest with a small engined car and your not doing many miles just get a petrol , the difference isnt huge .

You can get one for 3 grand or a 64 plate with 8000 miles for 4200-4500

No road tax

60+ mpg

Little fun to drive with Bluetooth and cruise control with a touch 7” display

And most importantly no issues

Cheap parts

Cheap tyres

Cheap service

Insurance group 2-4

Comfortable ride

Pure joy

Going back just 2 years back I could have got a Citroen C1 for 65 quid a month over a 12 month lease...only 200 upfront too....it would cast at least double now...there's yoke to do it and tested not to..now is the not to.

And if I’d bought it outright would it not depreciate in value ? The reason I lease is I like to change my cars every couple of years, I do under 10k miles per year so leasing is a good for me. On average a new car will lose 40% if it’s value over 3yrs. If I bought the basic xf model I’d pay over 33k, 40% of that over 3yrs is over 13k. If you shop around there’s some good deals.

I picked up a 2013 Smart fortwo cdi last year for £3k.

The lowest diesel emissioned production car produced. Zero road tax and returns a healthy 62-70mpg.

Cheap to insure too.
