Mouse Hunt!

OK I just wanted to say I found a mouse in my bedroom! Its a big deal cos this has never happened before for me

I've been trying to catch it in a plastic tub but it's so fast and leaps around everywhere.

It squeezed under the door, then a while later I can hear chewing inside an old ntl box. Its back again trying to eat through the wall. I could see it looking at me through the gap. Then I unscrewed the box and the mouse leaped out again and after trying to catch him he's gone under the door again.

Wonder when he'll be back. I know he must be hungry so I put a shreddie out for him, I'm not sure this is a good idea.

I'm trying to sleep. This reminds me so much of Mouse Hunt! Does anyone remember that film? It was so funny? Any tips, cos I really don't want to hurt him, just catch him and put him out so I can sleep.

If you have any chocolate put it down in aplastic tub thats upside down and only lifted at the corner. They love chocolate more than cheese. They'll smell it, run ibto the tub, then you knock it flat and you'll have them trapped.

When you let him free, take him down at least four houses away, or he'll be back in your house before you are.

(Free chocolate, who wouldn't come back?)

Alternatively, if you have a large juice bottle you could do similar, put it on its' side, build a wee platform with books so he can get into the bottle, and he'll not be able to get out again.

I don't know where i decided that the mouse was a he, but i'm not going back to change it now..

Oh yeah, chocolate in the bottle as well.

I'm going to assume it's a male as well but it will probably turn out to be a girl

I remember mouse hunt. I used to watch it none stop for hours on end

I hear they go crazy for peanut butter so try that if chocolate doesn't work

I'm half tempted to set up a mouse trap board (used to love that game) with peanut butter covered chocolate, then turn the crank and see if I can catch an actual real mouse in the trap.

Though probably knowing how that game tends to go, the crank would crank the sign, which would knock the boot, which would kick the bucket over, which would release the metal ball down the steps and along the chute, which would knock the hand on the tall stick, and that would be as far as it would go.

The big green ball wouldn't get knocked off the hand, thus failing to fall through the bathtub, onto the seesaw, flipping over the diver into the tub, and releasing the mousetrap, catching the mouse.

Get yourself a humane mouse trap, then you can let it go.

I am sorry to say though, when I get mice I put down rat poison. I,m more concerned about my wiring and stuff than the mouse. XXX

I prefer traps. They are caught (and despatched) and can be disposed of.

With poison they die in a dark corner and rot. It doesn't smell very pleasant.

OP, don't get too sentimental. Mice are vermin.

How beautiful that you want to treat your visitor with compassion not cruelty. The world needs more people like you, keep it up.

Good luck with the humane traps. They do work, even the home made ones. It just requires a bit of patience.

Ok, whatever trap you use, it needs to be touching a wall. You're better off spending some cash and buying proper traps. If you can figure out what routes the mouse is taking, then you can put one along it. Mice like to have one side touching something as the walk around in open spaces, because it makes them feel safer. Always put a long side and not a short side against the wall. It's best to use pungent foods that last a bit. Doesn't have to reek, but it being picked up by the mouses nose is a big help. If you get a snapping trap, then there is no need to worry about the mouse after. If you get a humane trap, you need to take that mouse far away from where you live and let it go there. If you let it out in the garden, it will only end up back in the house again

Get a cat. If you catch the mouse you need to take it at least a mile away. That’s the advice in the humane traps.

I had mice after my cat passed away. Got another cat and that sorted the mouse problem. Several houses had issues with mice. My wiring was chewed and that was on the second floor under the stairs. The noise used to drive me nuts. Chocolate is definitely the best to use in a trap.

Uh oh guess who's back.

Empty lucozade bottle tipped at an angle against platform of objects is now set.

Pieces of delicious Asda nutty bar (snickers) in said bottle ready to be enjoyed and savoured by the mouse, as the bottle is swiftly picked up, sealed and driven far away before being released.

They love chocolate, quickest way to catch them with a trap. Mars bars are best from my experience of shitty student accommodation.

I've used the classic Tom & Jerry spring type in the past. Once all I had to bait it with was marshmallows, checked it in the morning and the cheeky fucker had eaten the bait without setting off the trap

The humane ones I’ve used before didn’t wirk. What did work though was special plugs that emit a high pitched wail that drives the buggers mad and they leave faster than they can say “i never liked your cheese anyway!”.

Something similar - maybe they’ve gotten a bit more hi tech, but the same idea:
