Just passed my HGV class 2 and looking at different sat navs on ebay and Amazon.

There are much cheaper ones on the former, but I could do with some advice on what models to buy or stay away from, typical price, and reliability ect. If there are any friendly truckers out there I'd love to hear from you. Thanks

I met 2 female lorry drivers in Sweden years ago who had driven from some godforsaken barren country like Uzbekistan to Stockholm

They had the address and some directions written on a piece of A4 paper.

That was it #oldskool

Just remember the tech doesn't always take into account the size of the vehicle your driving and the road widths.

A mate of mine drives lorrys and uses tom tom(I think it's a specific lorry one for heights, weights etc)

I'm not seeing him today or I'd ask but he did have a phone app at one point.

He always kept an old fashioned AA paper road map guide (I think it was called "close up") which gave info on things that he relied on.

Visit a truck stop shop. Best invest in a decent bridge height map too.

Haha of course I've Googled it, but there are so many brands and since I know a few truckers that are on fab there might be a few more out there with helpful advice.

Also this is posted in the lounge, and anything goes, I'm not posting in swingers advice or fantasies section.

you need to be looking at truck satnavs

TomTom and Garmin are mostly chosen for these but the most important info is the truck info on the satnav.

this software holds 2 differnet info to it your roads and also low bridges for wagons

it also needs to be updated so consider this when buying a satnav

take a look at satnav debate for trucks

Dont buy a satnav, use a smartphone with apps

Navtruck and motorwaybuddy, you get live traffic conditions and always have updated maps

I haven't bought a sat nav in years. Apps are much better.

I recommend 'waze' for the average car driver.

I was looking for one for a while, too bloody expensive, I now use a car sat nav and keep my eyes open for low bridge signs

I did find a guy on ebay thats from Leeds or somewhere selling chinese truck sat navs for about 65 quid, he swears by em, they only last a couple of years or so but you bin it and get another, even if you get 4 or 5 of em in the long run its still cheaper than getting a 'proper' truck sat nav, if that makes sense

Cheap brands I've seen are

Xgody and goldbay.

I use a £35 sat nav that I got off EBay...I put in height,weight ,length etc but I always plan my route using a Truckers Atlas £15-ish from most service stations.

I prefer to use the map and Google maps and just use sat nav as an extra. Never hit a low bridge yet.

I suppose you can spend as much as you want on a all singing/dancing sat nav but,apart from traffic reports,it's hard to see where the extra money goes.

Spend the extra money and go for a Garmin unlike Tom Tom they are not just a software developer they are used around the world for meney activities hicking aviation etc and there software is easy to use they have a few models for the trucks with height and weight restrictions as the last thing you want is to come to a bridge to low down a country lane hope this helps

U can plug your sat-nav into a computer an download the app for HGV some r free some u have to pay for think tom tom make u lay
