World Cup is nearly upon us but for once I can honestly say I'm fairly excited with this England side Southgate has chosen. I know I know we usually get all excited and then come crashing down to earth heavily . But I have a good feeling they can go far this time around.

Whats your expectations?

I don't think anyone expects anything much so I don't think they will let us down at all.

I hope they go out, give it a go and enjoy the experience.

They can't let us down, as there are no expectations, also no egos and no players with overblow reputations.

It's a young squad, many still have something to prove, let's hope they settle, and play thier game.

If we get to QF's, then Job well done, then all fans will be thinking, only have to win 3 more games.

Come on England! Make us proud

I think the starting line up is decent and the formation works for us but there’s no strength in depth in the squad. I’d say getting out of the group and progressing to the 1/4s would be a huge achievement.

Getting out of the group can be considered a successful tournament. No doubt many fans will have talked themselves into believing 'we'll win the world cup'.

That said, I'll just watch it for the handsome fellas after England have flown home.

Yes I saw that on the BBC site. I don’t think it’s about winning at the moment, I’d be happy with improvement and playing well.

Frankly though until more good young talent is given the game time there will be a problem with our national team

I have the same feeling due to a bet i had with my mate 4 years ago saying by next world cup we will make semis

Also consider the 10 game stretch and the teams we have played and most importantly not lost to any

Also they seem closer than usual not as many petty rivalrys

Im confident we make at least semis and il be over the moon with that

Every country makes choices that will favour the national team or the top league. In our country, all those decisions are made in the interests of the premier league. Therefore, expecting anything significant from the national team is niave.

I don't think we'll win, many national teams have better players and more depth to their squads.

However, I suspect we'll go further than a lot of people expect and certainly further than last time.

Good young keen squad, full of enthusiasm.

My fingers are crossed for them.

If we don’t get past the group stages it will be yet another dissapointing display . Would I be surprised if we lose to Belgium ? Not at all , they are the favourites to win the group , but that in itself tells you all you need to know about how English football is so over rated . I mean Belgium ? Try naming half a dozen Belgian club teams without google .

If we lose to Tunisia or Panama it will be a complete disaster for us again , but nothing new . I think we will get through to the knockout stages and then go out . Anything more would be great , anything less typically unsurprising .

Most of the Belgium team play in the premiership, so it's not like we won't know what to expect. We'll still get turned over though....

No, that goes back to my comment about how countries make choices that will favour their league or national team. If you look at countries who do win the world cup then you'll see their domestic calendar, club-country relations and league rules are very different to England.

Any athlete can only give a peak performance for 6 weeks of any year.

The weeks can be split or grouped with training schedules, but whichever way you mix it, 6 weeks peak is all they get.

Modern athletes training regime can be so finely tuned that they can peak at a specific event.

So yes, they definitely need an off season.

Fans of ALL teams bar one will come crashing down to ground.

I never understand why England fans think they're the only ones.

But yes, it's a brave squad selection and I hope they progress further than the usual 'experience-rich' squads that England typically send.

"Most the players will be exhausted before the first kick off. The human body can't maintain that elite level of fitness all year round.

Is that from the underachievers book of excuses, page 2

Er no.......

That's why high level athletes need to acclimatise in different time zones and altitudes.

"World Cup is nearly upon us but for once I can honestly say I'm fairly excited with this England side Southgate has chosen. I know I know we usually get all excited and then come crashing down to earth heavily . But I have a good feeling they can go far this time around.

Whats your expectations?"

You wouldn't even bother asking this question if you were a Scotland fan.
