Random one but any tips for giving cats tablets easily ?

My friend crushes the tablets with a mortar and pestle and then mixes them in the cats food.

They tend to spit out whole tablets.

Press it into a bit of chicken, or cat on its' back on your lap, forefinger and thumb each side of its' mouth, pop the tablet in and massage the chin/throat for a few seconds.

Or crush the tablet, mix with a bit of butter and rub onto a front leg. They will usually lick it all off.

I get a bit of cooked chicken, cut into 1 cm cube. with the point of a sharp knife cut a slit to the centre. push the tablet into the hole.

Give one or two 'straight' cubes then give the spiked one.

You drop in there mouth raise head holding mouth shut an rub the neck. Sounds awful. Vets do it. Probably a you tube video to show you. As it easier once you’ve seen it

Grab the back of the cat's head with one hand and open its jaw with your fingers at the edges (away from sharp teeth!).

Chuck the tablet in its mouth, close its mouth with one hand and with the other hand stroke its throat so it swallows.

Run away.

The Bermuda Triangle in Suffolk

Depends on the cat. Could break up the tablet and put it in a piece of raw or cooked meat so they see it as a treat, if that doesn't work you may have to wrap cat in a towel as the claws will come out for sure and get someone to hold cat whilst you open the mouth wide. Make sure tablet goes to back of throat and they swallow. Important to make it as least stressful as possible.

You can buy little pill helpers at the vets,you pop the pill in and put it in your cats mouth and press it so the pill shoots to the back of their throat.

My cat was hyperthyroid so had to take 2 a day and didn't like it

Other than that,try putting in chicken or primula

I’ve done this a few times. Wearing a long sleeved thick coat!They tend to learn to hold the tablets in their mouth til you let them go so you really do have to hold their mouth and massage their throat to force the swallow reflex

Just squeeze a bit of Primula cheese onto a spoon. Hide the pill in it and the cat will lick and lick and swallow the tablet. Our cat has a pill like this every day

I’m glad someone else has used this message. Sounded awful writing it. My cat eats around them in food. Found this the only way. An yes he has left in his mouth a few times.

The vet suggested it and it has worked for a year. You can also buy some stuff called lickistix which is yoghurt. Its the same principle of making them lick and swallow. Primula is cheaper!!

Some of the pills shouldn't be crushed though which is a right ball ache

My youngest cat I can easily open his mouth n throat n slip the tab in n he swallows it but the other 2 madams I have to wrap the tablet up in fresh chicken n they both eat it n it works every time x

I grab Bear, put my finger and thumb in the corners of her mouth to open, pop the tablet in, close her mouth and rub her throat. Then give her loads of Dreamies!

As above, wrap in a towel, open mouth and drop tablet in. Then hold mouth closed and gently give a blow up the nostrils. They will swallow!!

Crush it in their food.

If its for worms etc there's a pour on solution that your run down their back.

I find it more effective then the tablet tbh

Crush it in their food.

Giving Cats Pills

INSTRUCTIONS FOR GIVING YOUR CAT A PILL

1. Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a

baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and

gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat

opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm

and repeat process.

3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away. Take new pill from

foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with lef hand.

Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold

mouth shut for a count of 10.

4. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call

spouse from garden.

5. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, holding front and

rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold cat's head

firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down

ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

6. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make

note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered

figurines from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

7. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with its head just

visible from below spouse's armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force

cat's mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

8. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink glass of water

to take taste away. Apply band-aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from

carpet with cold water and soap.

9. Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Place cat in

cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open

with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

10. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put door back on hinges. Apply cold

compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Throw

T-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

11. Ring fire brigade to retrieve cat from tree across the road. Apologize

to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last

pill from foil wrap.

12. Tie cat's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to

leg of dining table. Find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed. Force cat's

mouth open with small spanner. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece

of fillet steak. Hold head vertically and pour 1/2 pint of water down throat

to wash pill down.

13. Get spouse to drive you to emergency room; sit quietly while doctor

stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Stop

by furniture shop on way home to order new table.

14. Arrange for vet to make a housecall.
