Seems like we have both had it according to our doc, even got a second opinion cos Jayne didnt believe him.

She was slightly rough for two days, I felt a bit rough for about 8 hours. So much for this much feared disease lol!

Doc said although rare, it has been noticed that some lucky people only get it for a short time and only feel a little ill (I hardly noticed and she just felt "under the weather"), so we are defo buying lottery tickets this week!!!

OMG I wonder if I, and indeed a few people I know have actually had it too then wothout realising?

A lot of people will have had it without realising. Most cases are very mild but that doesn't mean an autumn/ winter bout will be too. If you're in any of the high risk groups make sure you get the jab.

Yes, we both just shrugged it off and carried on. We only found out about it cos Jayne had a routine appointment at the docs and it (the short period of blergh) came up in conversation, cue lots of questioning by the doc!!!

If you have had it, you have the antibodies in your system, so a jab is not necessary.

Your body produces antibodies for any disease you catch, its the way your body fights infections. This happens whether or not you also get help in the form of tablets or other medicines

Let us all just be thankfull that some of us Survived , and we can now get on and build back up the population of the World to replace the fallen ............. and on a positive note we have now updated our Wills , and if all goes well can move back to civilisation ................ its geting very boring here on Easter Island and am very tired of eating fish ,

Sorry. When I said 'you' I didn't mean YOU, I meant people in general, many of whom will get it and get through it without their doctor knowing.

Oh right lol! Well the only way to know apart from diagnosis is to have a blood test and see if the antibodies are there.

Yes, but there isn't going to be the time or the manpower (personpower?)to give everyone blood tests before giving them the vaccine.

From what the doc said, most people will know they are ill and either head to their local surgery, (not a good idea lol) or ring the NHS helpline, where they will be diagnosed over the phone or on the interweb (EH? Why spend 5 years or more training doctors if it can be done over the phone or comp?)

Best idea would be to give all docs the jab, then open the surgery at a different time for people who think they might have oink-flu, so as they dont give it to anyone else.

Mrs M also had it and was only ill for 2 days and the second day was a lot milder than the first.

But doesnt that mean she will have built up immunity if as excpected it comes round with greater impact the second time?

The over the 'phone/ internet stuff isn't a diagnosis as such. It's a list of yes/ no - tick a box/ don't tick a box questions and the software says 'offer tamiflu' or 'don't offer tamiflu' or 'tell patient to do ........." You don't need any great skill to work the system.

All surgeries will have access to the vaccine and will initially call vulnerable patients in an agreed order or priority. Curiously the elderly won't be an early priority 'cos its felt many will still have some immunity from previous outbreaks.

Aaaaaaaaah, but if it mutates the antibodies you have produced this time will not recognise the new strain -= so you would infact catch it again.

My mate got it and was told to go round to the surgery and wave at them thru the window, which she did.

They then come out, slapped a gimp mask on her and took her inside to give her this "tamiflu"

And then sent her home, she lives round the corner from surgery.

They would not give it to her hubby.

WTF

our 19 yr old son has had swine flu for the past week and wehave never seen him so ill....he is a strapping 6 foot tall lad and its wiped him out .....not all cases are so mild....

i live just off the west coast and we had a fairly well publicised outbreak here, and as a district nurse i was involved with the treatment and diagnostic team that dealt with it.....it seemed that it was the 18 - 25 year olds that were suffering the worst....people over 40 mainly had fairly mild symptoms....we swabbed and did blood tests on loads of people.....and when these were analysed it turned out that only 9% of those tested actually had swine flu!!!!...interesting eh??.......E xx
