So, the furthest I've ever run is 7k and I haven't run more than 3k in the last 6 weeks." Take it easy, walk/run (do proper intervals) and don't be ashamed if you do feel pain and you have to pull out. Good luck! | |||

"I mostly don't run at the moment apart from the occasional plod with the dog or Parkrun. I used to run a lot but spent a fair amount of time injured so moved to cycling. In the past I've raced distances up to marathons although I started from an overweight state. " Very impressed. My aim is to run a marathon one day. Nottingham is indeed a good marathon, if a little brutal mentally. The first 13 miles you're running with hundreds of people around you and lots of support. Most of them finish as they're doing the half marathon and you have to carry on running up to Holme Pierrepont where there isn't an awful lot of support. It really messes with your head! | |||

Treadmill in the gym, I feel safer and a bit daft running outside on my own lol and it's also been a bit too warm for my liking but I will brave it soon I found running on the treadmill to be a very arduous task, I still do to be honest! "Tea Monkey - I can highly recommend the White Peak Marathon. Being in the Peak district it sounds a toughie, but it's actually ok. You run up the Tissington Trail, then on the High Peak Trail where it finishes in Cromford (the last half is downhill!). It's a small but perfectly formed marathon! Usually held in May." Thanks! " Nottingham is meant to be a good one (I only mention that because of your location). If you can't get into either London or Brighton, I know loads of people who have done Manchester and love it. Nottingham is indeed a good marathon, if a little brutal mentally. The first 13 miles you're running with hundreds of people around you and lots of support. For those that don't know, Holme Pierrepont is the National Canoeing centre and is basically in the middle of nowhere (on the edge of Nottingham). | |||

I don't take water with me on a 5k but might not make 10k without? " I’d say to build up to it, if if you can get your distance to about 8k then you should be able to make the step up | |||
