Whatever happened to white dog shit?

It’s glorious Summer days like these, that evoke childhood memories of standing in white dog shit as a kid.

It was all the rage back in the day, no dog would be seen without it. What happened to it, why was it here and will we ever see it again. All these questions we cannot possible have the answer to ?!

Apparently it was due to some kind of dietary deficiency, but I did see some the other day while walking my own dog - a whiff of nostalgia!!

People are feeding their dogs a much better diet these days. Which in turn produces normal looking poo and not much of it if fed a varied raw diet.

Because the diet that people feed their dogs has changed, back in the day dogs ate table scraps, scraps (including bones) from the butchers etc. Now most people just open a bag or a tin to feed their dogs.

Is because dog food now, contains far less bone including bone meal. So less calcium, which is what turns the poo white.

This is correct. To be exact, the whiteness was caused by high calcium content in their diets then, primarily from bones. Nowadays not many dog owners give theur pets bones any more so it's all but eradicated...

Hi. I was for a long time. Then my financial situation changed so I had to make cut backs. Raw feeding was costing me £70 per month just for one dog. Now I've got 3 dogs, they'll have to wait until I'm working full time again.

However, what they do have, is the best of its kind with added fresh veg and sardines as a topper. ..

Lol can tell my dogs are my "babies". They're well looked after.

Yes indeedy . I brought from a raw company who make a complete me so with added veg, fruit, offal, essential oils and bone. Price for a 400g tub ( which an adult dog of my pets size needs 1 per day) is between £2-£3 each.

Then there's my two pups from my adult bitch. As they grow, they'll need the same amount each as their mum. Raw can be costly business. Any one wanting to get into it, once established, you'll be coining it in! Raw feeding is all the rage these days.

A good dog owner should do. Healthy normal looking poo = a healthy dog.

There's a tedTalk on healthy dog feeding. That guy said it's been proven by adding a certain amount of green veg or green leafy veg per day, actually decreases the percentage risk your dog may get cancer when it's older. Cancer in old dogs is unfortunately a common issue.

Back in the day the council had enough money to employ staff in different departments including dog poo painters who scoured the parks etc for dog poo and painted it white.

This enabled the council sh.t shovelers (they weren't worried about being polite back then) to spot the white sh.t at distance and pick it up.

Well well.. I thought it just dried up and crusty.. I used to work with a guy who never flushed the bog nor wiped his backside and he'd leave white tipped snakes in the trap. Could never explain why the inch white tip.. any suggestions?

I had enough in the end and after a final written had him moved to another site outside our area.

One time while unofficially out of school at dinner time maye and myself found a pile of poop that was big enough for a cow to have dropped it, must have been a 10 pounder.

Being conscientious students we thought the best option was to clean it up - with gun powder.

So we pushed 25-30 whistling rockets (remember 12 for a quid from the guy at the corner shop would sell ciggies booze and fireworks without question about age) into said dollop.

All was going well until my mate started lighting them while I was still inserting.

I asked why he was lighting to which the response "someones coming up the path". We got the timing very wrong and as we ran off stopping to look back to hear screeching followed by bangs and lumps of dog shite flying everywhere.

Next morning I arrived at school to a 'special assembly' for 4th and 5th years. The Headmaster stood in front of 150 kids where he announced that no one was leaving the assembly hall until the two pyromaniacs stood up and confessed to covering a member of public outside the school in dog muck.

I bit my mouth tongue and lips so hard that day for over 5 hours, it was weeks before they healed properly as I knew a sudden outburst of laughter would lead to a shaming and exclusion from school.

We held out and at two thirty we were released from the temporary prision to get out and away.

Oh my.. to see that shit flying over the hedges is a sight I'll never forget.
