Great idea, then the OP of a thread could just delete any post that doesn't agree with them or doesn't tell them how wonderful they are. That way anyone can convince themselves that they are always right about everything and that no one disagrees,so that proves they were right all along.

Of course it would work to flatter the egos of those who post to only receive comments that they agree with or are complimentary.

Can't really live in a world where you only hear what you want to hear. Opposing views often give you answers that you couldn't think of yourself.

It's always better to have twenty or more different opinions than just have people agreeing with you. So for those reasons I think it's a pointless idea.

That kind of is my point though, that argument(as in reasonable debate) is always a good thing. Generally when anyone starts getting all Ad Hominem or insulting,it's just so obvious that they don't need to be censored, they only make themselves look foolish and destroy their own arguments. IMO.

Hi Mr See.

If everyone was reasonable and rational on forums it might work...

However as we know it isn't always that way here, sometimes the complete opposite.

What I do think might be a good idea would be if all threads had a 24 hour shelf life and then were automatically deleted or archived.

Would keep forums fresher maybe and prevent threads from eons ago being revived.

But that's also the problem at times. Cos as mutch as most will just enor a post like that sumone will comment on in and that's wen it all kiks of.

The idear is the op cood delete it befor it kiks of.

In the real world we have laws and the police, on the forum we have rules and moderators. Things are this way for a reason, the OP being given free rein on his/her thread would be a monumental disaster. It would make the moderator’s job even more difficult than it already is. If you are a site member and are allowed to post on the forum then you should be allowed to post wherever you wish. If a poster doesn’t conform to the forum rules this is for the moderator to decide, not the OP because the opinion of someone doesn’t agree with their own. As for derailing a thread if this is such an issue maybe you should post this on the appropriate message board for admin to consider. However think very carefully as we are all guilty of going off topic on occasion and it can be amusing. Should the nature of the derailment be breaking forum rules then report it. That’s what admin and the moderators are here for
