Breast Cancer

I have just received the news that a friend's mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is waiting on further tests etc but is likely to need a maesectomy.

It is shocking and devastating and highlights the importance of regular testing for both females and males.

I feel that especially on a website like this where we ladies emphasize and 'show-off' assets we are proud of, part of our identity, feminity and sexuality, it certainly puts things in perspective.

So please ladies.... and men Please make sure that you check, check and check again and go for regular smears, mammograms and to GP if you are worried about anything.

It could not only save our most valuable assets, but something a million times more valuable, our lives.

Thank you both.

If I can highlight the importance of everyone checking or as a reminder to go for that appointment for ALL then I'm content. This is the best place to do it and make people think ohhh maybe I should go to GP.

The situation that my friend's mother is in screams that nothing is more important.

Do not put it off, do not be too busy or embarrassed....nothing is more important

no matter

Sorry to read about your friends' diagnosis I do hope they have found cancer quickly and she recovers well.

I was a lucky one they found DCIS in a routine mastectomy. 7 weeks later in 2012 I had a lumpectomy and Radiotherapy sessions followed a few months later.

My profile picture shows my breasts now. The size has dropped by about two sizes and I am left with a horrible dent and lopsided nipple. They tried to fill it with fat but now I just have a hard nobbly lump there. It did not help the scar tissue inside which pulls in and looks horrendous when you lean forward.

But I did keep my breast. My life was saved and for that I am grateful.

Sometimes vanity does get to you. I even stopped going to Kestrels as I no longer felt comfortable uncovered in the company of strangers.

I'm sure it has affected most of our lives. As the lady says - go get checked.

Good for you and love and best wishes for you and your family.

Thank you all for your best wishes

I will pass them onto her.

Sadly she is only 57, I am unclear to her exact diagnosis or staging or whether it has metastasized. All I know is that she has to have a maesectomy. Friend was too upset to discuss it clearly.

Best wishes to those of you that have survived, you are so strong and courageous and you have beaten it... and to all of us who have had the 'all clear' that is wonderful too.

But most of all thank you for your support. If it makes just one person on this forum remember that appointment or give them an incentive to see the GP then this post was worth it.

Just under a year ago .I lost my father to a brain tumour. The day after his funeral my wife had the results which showed she had Triple Negative stage 3 breast cancer. She has endured months of chemo, has had to have a mastectomy and 3 weeks of Radiation. Still can't say if she is clear yet.

I didn't think or know who she would get through it. She has and somehow we have managed to laugh along the way. We both now have a completely different outlook on life and she is even talking about meeting again to build her confidence up.

She is 54, just wish she was sent for a scan earlier, thought woman where called from the age of 50. She didnt want to bother the doctor. If only.

Ah best wishes to you both. Women normally are called at 50, although they may have changed that with all the cuts they make these days
