Redundancy can cause very mixed feelings even if it was welcomed. Colleagues can change their attitude toward you, you can feel isolated if you're one of only a few chosen and statutory redundancy pay is not the life changing sum people seem to think it is.

Really? I know statutory redundancy is capped at 20 years and I know it's more of your 41 and over. I didn't know it is reduced if you're close to retirement age though.

It was the case when I got made redundant. Some got more than others for the same amount of service. It was down to which age group you were in.

Maximum statutory redundancy pay is just over £15k, the amount per week starts to taper off at 64, the maximum years a company has to pay for is 20. If you're over retirement age I think but I'm not sure that payments are reduced.

Your company can pay you more of course and if you have a company pension you are required to start claiming it if you're over 55.

Redundancy isn't always the cash cow people believe it to be.

It's all on the gov't website. Over a certain age you get a week and a half up to a maximum figure. Then once you reach retirement age it goes down. You do have to take a company pension once you've reached 55 but you need to make sure it's enhanced to pay you what it would if you'd been able to work until the age you opted to retire when you took it out.

It can be extremely difficult to find work once you hit your late fifties especially if you have left a well paid job and have obligations that need a similar salary.
