Lol did you go to school with David Cameron? Cyclists don’t use pavements, I spent 45 minutes behind a bunch of cyclists on a country road yesterday.. they built up traffic and didn’t have the courtesy to stop and let’s cars go to ease traffic..

Not a huge fan of "lycra wankers", especially when they are riding two abreast, and without consideration to other road users.

Had one special breed of twat think that it was okay to thump my car as I reversed onto my drive, because he hadn't seen my hazard lights, or see me slow down over the previous 75 yards. Wanker.

I agree in Cities it is madness to have bicycles and vehicles on the same roads. Such different and incompatible forms of transport. Cities are getting better in providing cycle lanes but still far off Amsterdam and Copenhagen. In the countryside it is not practical to have cycle lanes so both motorists and cyclists have to be careful and considerate. The group you spent 45 minutes behind were clearly not considerate, and they should consider the possible consequences of having an irritated motorist behind them. Or perhaps we need a law that if cycles are delaying a car getting round for more than 3 minutes, the cyclist must stop and allow overtaking.

Is some less than most? OK.... Some car drivers. To be honest most of the cars passing me and the other cyclists taking part in a local sportive around the cost wolds yesterday were very considerate when overtaking and even on twisty roads they weren't held up for 45 mins!

Lots do these days. Admittedly it's generally avid cyclists who ride for more than the odd day a month.

I cycle lots, for leisure, sport and socially. If a person cant drive a car without dealing with the a cyclist and the temporary holdup, is guess they have personality issues that make them unsuitable to drive anyway!!

Maybe you should drive better then. Give at least 6ft clearance between you and the cyclist.

Cyclists aren't saftwr on the pavement due to meandering pedestrians and dogs etc

The highway code states at least as much room as you would give a car or one car width.

Not if it’s a single lane lol you have to go in the opposite lane to avoid the slow angry cyclist

Lol did you go to school with David Cameron? Cyclists don’t use pavements, I spent 45 minutes behind a bunch of cyclists on a country road yesterday.. they built up traffic and didn’t have the courtesy to stop and let’s cars go to ease traffic.. Bloody hell . What was you driving a mobility scooter ?

As someone who rides their bike often but also drives too there does seem to be an attitude in cyclists that they have the given right to ride two abreast, it’s a recent thing too, I have also been knocked off by a driver who didn’t see me as they didn’t look, there is no single answer, just don’t be a dickhead on the road wether you ride or drive, simples

If they do, they're breaking the law. There's a minimum speed for motorways, and sitting in the middle lane when not overtaking is also illegal. For good reason.

cyclist and it even pisses me off when they block a single lane carriageway.

Most cyclists do take the piss, i see it daily when i’m on the road going to work, jumping red lights, weaving through traffic to get to the front, and if they get knocked off they blame the motorist, if the cyclist was following the highway code properly, they’d have nothing to worry about.

If only pedestrians would walk in an orderly manner! One could cycle on pavements with ease. I choose not to road cycle these days drivers are a pain in the arse.

My pleasure on way to work is to sit behind a cyclist giving them plenty of space and holding up all the traffic cos I will not risk passing and scraping my car.

My annoyance with cyclists is when they dont keep their hands on the handle bars. So bloody dangerous.

Joking aside, the long and short is, that cycling on roads isn't going away.

People forget that the inconvenience is actually a person. A vulnerable person at that if you drive aggressively and impatiently. Both sides have obligations. I tbink encouraging cycling is a good thing.

We have lots of Country roads near me that hold cycling races. Many is the time i’ve nearly swerved into a ditch after oggling the hot men in lycra looking all sweaty and sunglassed up.

Then i see their calves and a i feel a bit faint as i don’t like the way the calf muscle bulges out when they’re cycling

I cycle everywhere.. but i always use back streets or cycle paths.. sadly some occasions i do have to use the road. But if your a safe driver and aware then there shouldnt be a problem

In my area there are many shared pavements for cyclists and pedestrians. The rule for a cyclist to use them is they must go at a safe speed and give way to pedestrians. Its not that unsafe..

And there is the complete ignorance. Road tax does not pay for mending roads.. your council tax does! Road tax is to pay for the pollution you create cos as a country we have to pay a world organisation for the amount of pollution we create. Therefore the less your vehicle pollutes the less tax you pay. Simple fact

As for insurance that was introduced to protect innocent 3rd parties as cars cause so much damage. It was never needed before cars even tho there was bikes and horses on our roads.. says it all really.

If your that worried you can be protected from the uninsured if you but the right policy :/

Noooo cycling on pavements should be banned unless it’s a cycle path. Sooo tempted to knock them off. And I do tend to ask if their Mum won’t let them ride on the road

Riding 2 abrest isn't illegal on MOST roads. I always ride single file unless we are on quiet country roads.

My take is a lot of cyclists ride two abrest so a car physically has to overtake sensibly and not squeeze between when it isn't safe to do so.

It is. Unless it is a designated cycle path, cycling on the pavement is an offence.

Bananaman, you don’t pay road tax. Nobody pays road tax. The thing you pay for your car is vehicle excise. It’s based on the pollution your car creates, and has nothing to do with roads.

All powered vehicles are liable for 'Vehicle Excise duty' if that vehicle is used on the road therefore it is a tax on using the road but is not called a tax and doesn't refer to the road but the effect is the same.

"It is based on emission". Nope. Fossil fuel generators do not pay it because they are not used on the road. Tractors and other farm vehicles do not pay it because they are not used on the road.

Very low emission cars and electric cars ARE liable to VED (because they are used on the road) it is just that they are CURRENTLY rated as £0 per year tax ... sorry ....duty which is NOT the same as being exempt from VED.

Not calling it 'road tax' is a psychological 'trick' to deny ownership but the fact remains that if you do not pay this 'duty' and use the road in a powered vehicle you will end up in court.

Are you kidding? I have a 3.5 V8 Land Rover that I round round my land all the time. It pumps out great clouds of exhaust but I never take it on the road, so I pay nothing to the govt for it. When I take my 1.2 litre car onto the road, I have to pay money. Does it matter what it's called - I still have to pay it to use the road!

Fact of the matter is there are twats no matter what you do. People who think they are entitled to act outside the law, people who think it OK to abuse other people for acting within the law, people who think they know better than the law. It's just life these days.
