FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB

WEEK TWENTY TWO!!!

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Twenty Two!

It’s been lovely to see our new runners finding their feet as well as the experienced one achieving great things. You’re all awesome.

.

.

.

SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB...

The FCRC sex-club social will be on 8 June at Vanilla Alternative from 8pm. Everyone is welcome. If you’ve never been to a club before, come along with us. It’ll be loads of fun to sit in the hot tub gossiping! There’s no obligation whatsoever to play with anyone. I can meet nervous newbies outside so we can go in together.

(Please note, you'll need to ensure you're a member of the club (Vanilla Alternative) and that you've booked a place for the event itself well in advance).

Please RSVP.

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving our fitness through running. None of us were natural athletes (I was a natural couch potato!) but we did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (I used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress.

Mrs Trellis x

PS - Don't forget to RSVP for the sex club social! All are welcome.

Morning peeps.

I’m going to run today. I’m just trying to reliably do 5km in under 40 mins at the mo. Let’s see how today’s run goes!

Who else is running?

Morning two weeks today I di my first beep test in twnety five-odd years, two weeks on Sunday in the Pudsey 10km. A weekend of drink and cake was good, gardening my only exercise.

Had a nice run round the grounds of historic Knebworth House yesterday. Ended up covering 12k at a gentle pace.

I quite often run off the road and like to explore public rights of way. There's quite a lot out there if you start to explore.

Where does everyone prefer to run?

Recovering from doing the Edinburgh Half Marathon on Sunday. 1hr 51mins 18 secs. For future reference they have 5k and 10k races on the Saturday if anyone fancies it next year. Edinburgh is a great city if you've never been.

Hello fellow crap runners. Well I have been the crapest of crap runners as I haven’t run in ages. I had problems with my feet and decided that rest was the best medicine. It seems to have worked. I’ve been rambling all over the Lake District this last week and so far my feet have been ok. So, it’s back on the treadmill for me over the weekend. Wish me luck......

I just bought my most expensive pair of trainers for a very long time, I normally buy them in the sale at £30-50.....these were £125!!!!!!!!

My knees have started to ache on the last two runs, so thought my two year old trainers might be causing some issues. Hope these ones help, for that price tag better do

Still no running for me - still being beaten by tonsillitis.

Sounds like everyone's run is going well!

Fantastic half marathon time Only Drew!

And have fun cycling in Portsmouth over the weekend Harry.

I took 2 mins off my time today. Done 3 miles again. Well chuffed

I have a question

Is it better to run really slow and try and do the whole 3 miles without stopping and build up my speed or is it better to try n go a bit faster and stop start and try and cut down the bits I walk gradually x

I think it depends on how you like to run.

I'm personally a builder. I will slowly build up to the distance I want to run at the speed I want to run at. I see taking walking breaks as a failure. My challenge is to run a certain distance, not walk it!

However, there is nothing wrong with the run/walk approach. There are so many people that swear by it because you can go further a lot quicker.

Try to jog slowly instead of walking until you catch your breath back

I just get I'm struggling and any more than walking is torture. I'll keep playing it by ear and see how it goes x

Essex.

In some tests, marathon runners that ran/walked beat their average times because they ran harder during the running sections, enough to more than compensate for the walking parts.

So do you like a bit of strictness then? Are there any of our female FCRC members who can oblige Drew?

The Galloway method, give it a go, great for people recovering from injury

A lot of it is in your head.

After 5 minutes I feel like shit but I noticed that I don't feel any worse after 15 minutes.

Once I got round that I started increasing the distance.

The wierd thing is, on the road I run an average of 6pmh but on a tread mill I run at 5mph as 6mph feels fast...
