Hello dear friends Fabbers and Forumites.

I hope you have all have had a splendid Sunday.

Back from woek and golly gosh there have been some rather spectacular thunderstorms here today.

I'm just having a cuppa , milk one sugar . I'm watching BBC 2 and it's the big weekend from Swansea. It's the radio 1 one and heavens I haven't a clue who any of the artists are .

The six music one in Belfast is more me .

So chums are you still down with youth culture.

It seems I am not

Taff and Pooch

Me neither, although most of a certain generation would have to google what a doltish clot is...

Ps it’s nothing medical!!??

I was being subtly witty - Both are words from the 1940’s. You spotted the time travelling anachronistic words.

I'm familiar with bits and pieces especially as I work with kids.

However what really gets my goat is when they think something is just for them and that I'm trying to be down with the kids, like when I'm wearing vans or converse etc, I've been wearing them since I was a kid and they existed before I was even born!

Milton Keynes

When I first started working at a college, it took me quite a while to acclimatise to a lot of the slang - some of it was fairly straightforward and easy to grasp, such as 'long' - some of it less so such as 'bare'.

However, I'd been there for a few years and was fairly aux fait with most of it, when one day I was in the smoking shelter, chatting with a couple of lads.

We were chatting about a local area that was a bit rough and rundown, and one of them goes "Yeah, you gotta be on your hood" which was a new one on me - but I was kind of rationalising it - hood is like the ghetto, so if you were being ghetto then you'd be projecting this kind of "don't fuck with me" kind of aura, sort of makes sense, I've got this, I'm down...

A minute later he says it again, but now out of context. I'm sort of confused...then he says it again, gesticulating at the other kid...

He was saying "You've got a bee on your hood"

Suffice to say, I felt like a dickhead (thankfully I'd not said anything about it out loud)

I used to be able to "get down wid it" - but it was the increasing difficulty of getting up afterwards that was the problem. Now I forget what "it" was.

see... this is one of those getting old threads....

my epithany moment was when i started looking online at clothing and decided whether to buy them on the basis of whether they "looked comfy".. well that and it was the debenhams website and no one cool has bought anything from there ever!!!!!

i am still hated in my local pub for telling people they are "sneeky old" by if they can remember scott and charlene's wedding in neighbours.... because that is now 32 years ago!!!!
