Trans-racial

I read the headline about a contestant off a tv show claiming she's trans-racial born to the wrong race, and seems to have faced much criticism for her comments.

I don't really have an opinion either way about this, but curious as to how others feel about this and if or how it compares to transgender, and should it be an accepted label?

I'm trans-species, I seem to have little in common with the nutters of the human race lately!

"Why the hell not. If she feels like it "

That was my feeling, but it felt as if the consensus was that it wasn't acceptable.

I think it's where the lines of her personal opinion vs the complications of Biology and the legal system cross where this gets awkward.

From my liberal perspective, she can feel however she wants, it's not harming me.

However, we are all of a certain racial and ethnic background, this is determined by genetics, and these genes have real world implications, eg, medical ones.

If political activist types make this a new passion project and any country concedes, there going to have a hell of a time creating a convoluted legal system to cover the trans-racial category whilst dealing with the rapid bioinformatic future of health care.

What is race?

It seems that the argument is nature vs nurture.

If a baby of one ethnic group was raised by a family from a different one, they might later consider that their family's background to be theirs as well.

Didn't see the program!

What race was she?

What race did she think she should be?

Did she have a DNA test?

What were the results?

Fascinating stuff!

I watched something about body dismorphia a long time ago. People convinced that an arm or a leg wasn't their own and getting them amputated

The mind is a strange thing that we know little about still!

Not sure about about the answer to the question... it's a very complex issue.

Are you sure it's not your God disowning the human race?

Oh it wasn't a documentary, just first dates I think? She was presumably white/British but claimed she felt she was more of black heritage. I don't think that's a particularly new thing and I have heard others using what I'd consider to be a derogatory name to it. But the label trans-racial seems to give it more validation to her at least, yet it caused a stir elsewhere. Now someone that considers themselves to be transgender is legally protected and rightly so, but can you reasonably not apply this to race? And if not what makes it different?

There was an American woman not long ago, involved in a black charity. She'd done loads of good work for the charity. She lived, worked and believed she was black but was outed as a white person eventually.

I think if it is champagne it has to come from the champagne region and, it's the same with other things, like stilton.

I guess you can fix things like being born in the wrong body to a certain extent all be it without a womb and periods. You can fix body dismorphia by lopping off a limb. You're stuck with your cultural and racial DNA. You can't really change that can you! Must be horrible if you're in that kind of position!

It's EXCELLENT. Nothing else like it on tv. I think they are starting to air it in the UK.
