Anyone else stuck in a job they dislike?

I am unable to just walk out due to bills, I’ve been looking for three months for another role yet seem to be getting no where.

Feel like I’m all alone and stuck

It can be a horrible experience having to go to a job you hate doing. It can affect your mental well being and how you view the world. You’re not alone, you have us to rant to

Unless you have a very specialised job, you can find another role, you need to focus on the search and work hard at finding somewhere you would rather work, keep faith in yourself it will work out.

You got this!!

I would love to be able to work, but due to psoriatic arthritis it sometimes takes me half an hour to put ma socks on lol

Not worked for over 3 years now, but spent most of ma time on building sites, it does get me down sometimes cos I loved the banter

Hope you find something soon OP, have you thought about retraining?

Thank you, I’ve been here before when I was a lot younger, I just walked out then as was carefree! However this time I’m not so lucky

that must suck, I know my dad missed the banter when he could no longer work due to ill health.

I did retain, this is my first job in my new field... I like the actual job and tasks just dislike the company and a few people at work who make things hard

Is it office based? If it is, I'm pretty sure I would sooner jump out of the window than work in one of those places

It’s 50/50 I do have a desk and PC with a swivel chair... somedays I don’t even get to my desk!

Operations manager in a performance theatre, love the actual work, it’s the other aspects

If you're looking for something similar and depending on the profession. The hiring process can be seasonal, so hang on in there, kow your shit and keep your head down as best as you can in order to get good feedback when new job calls.

All the best

Well take your chair and tell them to swivel

Joking apart, if it's really getting you down, as a manager, have you not tried reorganising things in your department?

You are not alone OP. I'm already waiting over 4 months to move in with Cute on the other side of England and I hate everything about the place where I work right now and it has made me feel quite shite in last few weeks, but because I don't know when exactly I'm going to move I can't just walk away from that place. I guess I will have a problem to find a job which I would love too, because I'm a foreigner and my English isn't perfect, but I will do my best.

I know that right now you feel like you are stuck, but I'm sure you will find something what suits you sooner or later, just don't give up.

Your boss will replace you quickly. Remember that. If your job is horrible, do everything you can to change it, you spend most of your life in work so why shouldn’t we find one we like.

I'd rather be properly employed rather than self employed. It's left me up shit Creek finance wise as I had 2 days off last week due to illness.

Op I'd echo the thoughts from the thread. Be brave and keep applying.

It sucks that you can't just tell them to do one though.

I feel your pain OP.

I feel like I'm being lobotomised on a daily basis!

I've been looking for something else for a while now - but it's slim pickings out there.

I have had similar thoughts of quitting - but for the obvious reason of money I can't

Can you cut down your hours maybe?

I'm going to try it this week.

Money isn't worth pain!

Thanks everyone, great to know I am not alone in this. Which on the other hand is very sad knowing so many dislike their jobs.

Been applying this morning, joys of shifts I get to make a few calls etc before work even though work have called re a problem I cannot resolve from home... makes my wanting to head into work even more cheery!

Onwards and upwards and cannot wait for the day to say here is my resignation, you owe me x hol days f you

We can get through this together xx

I've been in that position a few times. Especially in my 20's when most of my applications were knocked back due to "lack of experience". My current job is dull but pays well so I'm happy enough, and the reserves gives me the excitement and adventure I need (as well as a second income)

Under the Duvet

Someone on here posted with a similar issue recently.

I'd suggest seeing if you can compress or reduce your hours.

If the person you work with is being unprofessional then document everything especially if they are moving the goal posts. So for instance if they ask you to do xyz get them to confirm by email so if they then say later that now they want abc you have an audit trail if they are being unreasonable. I had a manager like that and she hated putting anything in writing so I made sure I backed up any conversation we had with an email.

Also be honest with yourself and ask if they are really being unreasonable or just asking you to do things you don't want/have time to do? Is it a clash of personalities?

Do you have an effective HR dept? Could you raise it at work reviews/appraisals?

If all else fails certainly look for another job but if the majority of the time you enjoy your current job I'do be loath to let one persons behaviour push me out.
