After a recent break up I’m left considering going on holiday alone (I can’t get the same time off as friends or my sister) has anyone done this before ?! Did you enjoy it ?! Would you do it again ?

I’m thinking more beach holiday than ‘travelling’ x

Interested to hear comments on this as been thinking the same. Want/need to get away but friends are all occupied with family life these days and kind of lost the social side if life during my last relationship.

Ive been to turkey, luxor, Mallorca and on a tour of the west coast of america on my own..

Nothing wrong with that, I’ve literally just got back from Spain ... alone! I set up scuba diving lessons, and mingled from there. It’s nice to have me time, also I think it’s so very necessary for ones own sanity. You will be just fine OP

Yup a few times. All mates are married so the most I can get away with them is the odd lads weekend. And as I do contract work I tend to go away at the end of contracts or when I get an enforced Xmas contractor lay off. I'm more than happy talking crap to anyone so as nice as it would be to share holiday time with someone I'll always get talking to people and travelling alone is way better than dealing with the shit UK weather!

Go for it, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I went alone to Cancun. I relaxed like never before.

I do it all the time. Very liberating. You can do whatever you like plus I've found it easier to meet new people when I'm on my own

I’ve done loads of traveling on my own and actually prefer it that way. I have also been on package holidays as a single and would recommend you find somewhere with a good entertainment setup.

The hardest bit for me is mealtimes, I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb. It doesn’t and won’t stop me going though...

Been going away on my own for last 6 years.

Been all over the place and had great time.

No one to answer too, no one else to consider where to go, what to eat, what excursions to do, what time to go to bed.

You can just do what you want when you want and its all about you and having a great time.

Plus you will definitely meet people and make friends along the way too.

when my partner passed away I was in a really bad place so after the funeral I took my self off to Spain I just couldn't cope with everyone either avoiding me or asking how I was

I cried alot but reflected on my life and went hope a much stronger person

I don't think that I'd go away again on my own though

I've always found that if you go away with someone,when you book flights together they seat you together.

Several times I've gone alone and had a whole row to myself. That alone can make it all worthwhile.

Definitely. Did it a lot in my early 20s and loved the peace. Had a very busy work and social life and needed the solitude!

I’ve enjoyed travelling alone a lot. You get to do exactly what you want, no compromises and I’ve ended up speaking to so many people, that I wouldn’t have done otherwise.

About ten years ago, I went to Nice for a long weekend. On the Saturday night there was a wedding in my hotel. There were also a group a Welsh guys - contractors who I had a drink with, that led to us being invited into the wedding reception where we danced and laughed so much, that the brides father sent a bottle of champagne to our table. Two of the guys came back to my room for a bit of fun and I woke the next morning with the mother of all hangovers.

Now I have Sir to travel with and that’s awesome too

After a very bad break up I thought I couldn’t go alone and surrounded myself with friends and then hated going away with them.

Upon reflection I think it would have been better to go alone I could have processed things and had the space to feel sad.

I really want to do this!!! I was thinking of a beach and chill and relax!! theres a facbook page with girls who like to travel alone... they have lots of tips and advice!! It’s great!!

I do worry about feeling like a gooseberry though!!!

I go on my own. I find cruises great. Independent sightseeing in the day and a nice place to come back to at night with quizzes if you want to be sociable or a film or show.

I have travelled on organised trips to India, Nepal and China on my own, also done several weekends alone and have a Motorhome I explore the UK alone.

The awkward time on holiday can be mealtimes at hotels, but if use a package holiday for single travellers you sit at tables for 6 or 8 and get to chat to others.

Be brave, pick somewhere you like the look of and go.

Find something you like to do and book something around that.

My thing was sailing and used to go away for 3 weeks at a time delivering boats with people I had never met before.

I'm in exactly the same position as the OP and likewise I'm most probably going to have to go alone this year if I'm having a holiday away - also due to a breakup.

I must be honest and say that I'm not looking forward to it, seeing everyone in the airport with a partner, sitting round the pool, eating, drinking and generally doing what couples do.

That sounds bitter and it isn't meant to come over that way, but for the past 12 years or so I've always gone away with my wife and doing everything alone will be more than just a little bit odd.

Then why don't you go on a singles holiday? There are lots of companies that offer them, especially as you are hoping for a relationship and not just sex.

I always go by myself. Sure it's not as fun as travelling with someone but you can still have an amazing time. Still consider my 3 week holiday in Canada the best of my life.

I did this a few years ago after a break up. I’m doing it again this year for similar reasons and I’m very much looking forward to to it. You meet lots of people so there's always the offer of company if you want it but lots of quiet time if that’s what you want.

Do it OP, I’ve had more great times, spontaneous fun and adventure when I’ve been on my own (work or holidays) it’s because people are generally nice, they want to look out for you as a singleton, they care how you feel... their empathy will kick in, they’ll see you’re alone and will strike up a conversation with you. As part of a couple or group they wouldn’t feel the need, wouldn’t invite you to their homes, talk, buy you drinks, invite you to join them at their dinner table... I’ve been invited on boat trips, wedding receptions, family dinners excursions, the jump up party in St Lucia by the beautiful water sports manageress...
