Have you stuck with the same manufacturer of car when buying a car?

Do you like to totally change make and model when your looking for a new car?

And cant you choose one without much debate with your wife over the,,,,colour?

Had two Fords, a Toyota, a Nissan, Volvo, VW and two Honda's!

tending to stick with Japanese cars for reliability

Condition, history and price more important than colour, not owned a green car though, would have to be a REAL bargain to make me buy a green car

My car is nearly 10yo, and is very sentimental to me.

I had her from new in 2002, and she has had some major works done to her in the past few years.

However, she means a lot to me.

When it is time to get a new one, I intend to keep her if it is financially viable.

I shall replace her with another one from the same make as I like the look of the cars, a different model that will be better suited for my needs in the country.

It's a pile of metal fabricated to transport one from one place to another. I attach no sentimentality to cars whatsoever and if it's had it's time I get rid of it and get a new one.

VW all the way for me, due to my bad accident in 2005 i saw many professional for advice on safety ratings on cars and VW golf was the best option for me. Since had 2 and would always where possible go for VW.

had 4 Fords, 1 Vauxhall, 1 Volvo, 1 Suzuki, 1 Peugeot, 1 Nissan and currently drive a Jag. Next car wll defo be either Japanese or another Jag. Without doubt the Nissan and the Jag are the best cars I have ever owned/ driven.

People buy cars for many different reasons. Some people are very passionate about cars and treat them as part of the family. some people use them purely as a means of getting from a to b. there are 100s of different reasons (personal) to why an individual should buy a particular car. Whenever somebody asks my opinnion what car should they next buy I always ask them the same question "Exactly what do you want from a car" and how much they want to spend as there are many cars I would recommend. My pride and joy is now 14 years old. and would not consider replacing it. Modern cars are now designed and built by accountants not engineers so you can see the problem straight away. Does anyone here drive a modern diesel powered car fitted with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)? if so prepare yourself for some nasty nasty bills (google DPF problems) and trust me they are serious problems.

Agree...Unless I had the money for luxury/super cars... a car is a tool that surves a purpose..!

I'm a total petrolhead, not for me a mode of transport to get me from A to B. Grew up with aircooled VW's and still have two but have no gotten a car with one of those new fangled radiator thingys but its a flat six instead of a flat four and boy, does she go

Used to drive an old VW camper which drained my finances for several years. After that I've only bothered with cheap cars around the £600 mark and with the reqirement of 12 months MOT and then drive them in to the ground. Am toying with getting a Type III now I'm in the position I need a car, may as well get something with character!

I like my 4/4 being up high i can see whos coming and over the years saved me when on moter ways taking kids to schools miles away ..was a pile up i could see it and not be the 5th car to go into the back .I had alway said i would have a sports car at some point but i feel i would have killed myself liked the jag sports soft tops.

The threads full of that very thing, women commenting on what cars they like, sorry if the other ask about colour offends, im not making it up, when husband and wife go car hunting, quite often the wife of couple insists on that detail being her choice, thats all i meant, i know its not an exclusively female quirk, guys bother about colour too, sorry.

Price.

So far never paid more than £800 for a car, that will change next year when I intend to buy two for about £2,600 total.

Been very lucky, never had any major bills or problems with any of the cars I have had.

If I do get a choice next year, mine would be a diesel estate of some kind, possibly Peugeot, a combination of the three best cars I have had.

I'm far too embarrassed to even say what I drive. My ex purchased it for me when we split up ... think he was having a laugh!! I hate it when the question comes up in conversation ... lol ... most folk just look at me blankly.

im a car slut ..ill drive anything lol !! im every car salesman nightmare as when hubby as i go car hunting i really have no concern if we swop the car or not and walked away from them numerous times ! its the bottom line cost that interest me and things like making sure theyve mot'd and taxed it . its hubby who has his fave type of car ,the love of comforts and gadgets and colour preferences lol!

I have had about 98 cars now.. I do have some cars that I have had lots of.. I tend to like black, red or white cars.. but also like things like shocking colours..

It depends on what I want when buying a car.. for me the least important is mpg.. and most important is how it drives.

Next car I buy will be something quick I think... as I already have my sensible car..

I am also very impulsive on my car buying.. I sometimes just see a car on an old top gear and think.. ohhh I want one..and then go get one..

I can remember when Karmen Ghia's were the comparively expensive car on the scene but now they seem to have stalled massively in value. I susp[ect that it will return and they are by far the most classy of the old VW's. Sadly utterly impractical for carrying bikes so useless to me! Camper prices are unbelievable, even if I could afford to own one, not sure I could cope financually with how uneconomical they are!

Nothing wrong with Skoda old generation or new. Old ones are still driving round eastern europe in there 1000s. they are basic reliable cars which is more than can be said for "modern" cars

I now have a wonderful Nissan... didn't cost me much and is very very reliable... before that I had one of those little yellow fiat sciento's.. an absolute nightmare of a car.. forever breaking down and expensive to fix

It cant be worst than the cars I have had 17 off.. I had a metro first.. and loved it.. then had another 16 of them.. although many heavily played with.. including a metro turbo that was running over 150bhp..

My baby car was my subaru type R.. 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.. 2dr edition ..was just stunning car.. and I miss it and may well buy another next year..

fav not expensive car had to be either my 200sx s13

or my 172 clio..

then again also loved my 156 v6 alfa..

car I really want next year is italian, left hand drive and sexy as hell..

I have a thing for old rally cars..

also had plenty of rs fords..

and a gorgeous old golf cabriolet..

I think that sometimes it doesnt matter if cars are not everyones cup of tea, as long as you love it..

Didn't offend, just amused me a little. I can remember 10 years or more ago dating a real petrolhead of a girl and walking out of garages when the sales staff insisted on talking primarily to me. I find it odd that motorsport and the motor idustry seem to be stuck in the 70's when it comes to equality.

ive had alsorts of makes/models... smallest being a clio, biggest a 525ix tourer.... currently driving a xsara picasso which was given to me by my parents last year when they got a brand spanking new 7 seater verso (for 2 of them...) ? i hated it when it was given to me but it was better and newer than the one i had.... ive grown to love it and would happily have another

I went to a garage to buy a second more sensible car when I had the subaru.. I turned up in the subaru... yet when I got out.. they talked to my husband.. he said talk to her.. she knows what she wants.. I was after a 182 clio with club pack on..

he tried to talk me into 3 other lame cars..

lol including a 1.4 clio...

Anyway, finally got them to see I only wanted the 182... So they sent me out with the woman friendly guy for test drive..

Because he understands how frightened women can be with a different car..

He said I could pop down the a road and then back along the country lanes...

Needless to say he came back realising just how much his attitude to women drivers had offended me..

I then said it was just perfect for the track.. and if the price was right I would take it.. I showed my MSA licence then for id..

Did love the car but they wouldnt agree to fix the clutch which while not gone, wasnt great.. so I didnt buy that one.. but.. lol loved the test drive.

I have been in many car clubs and find that many women dont help us get accepted in the clubs..as there are still to many car tarts as opposed to female car enthusiasts...

But I love my cars... and cars are more than from getting from a-b.

3 years ago I paid £230 for a 10 year Fiat Seicento that has covered 40000 miles off ebay. I bought it for the soul purpose of using it during the winter months. It has served me well. Last year during the real bad weather not once did it let me down or indeed get stuck anywhere unlike a lot of BMW and Mercedes owners.
