I always ask myself "If I say xyz will 'they' hear it, maybe question it in an enquiring way, and use it to learn or will their ego get in the way?"

Most opinionated people assume they're right and the other person is wrong. Sometimes its a case of two perspectives where both are incomplete.

So I don't have rule, I judge the situation

I try to pick my moments. If you're always having to have your say then people will eventually start to tune out. If you save it up for when it really matters, people listen more.

In theory anyway

It all depends on the subject matter!

It all depends on how people have been responding to the OP.

It depends if there is a balance of opinions on here? Surely not!

Or it varies depending on who feels they know a helluva lot to reply, but in reality have no clue and are really speaking out of their rear ends!

I suppose ion one way too, is that I'm a Scot, and we usually want to have the last word!

I have a vast vocabulary, erudite and eloquent but there are times when "stop spouting bollocks you cretinous arsewipe" would be an appropriate response...but I resist the urge and step away from the laptop.

Some will speak their mind in the open air and that is the end.

Some will sneak and threaten and keep it between the people involved.

Others will threaten and show their feelings in the open air and make a fool of themselves.

I suppose it depends on the person you are how you feel about them and the situation

I am renouned for saying what I think and to any one regardless of grade or position (sure I would have been promoted years ago if I could just shut up)

I am about guarded on here because being relatively new but reading the found a lot I can see sometimes people do get 'ganged up on sometimes'

I do however know who's opinions I agree with and who is going to give 'honest' opinions and not go with the clique. I admire those people greatly x

It's always good to be honest in your opinions, but sometimes decency and politeness get forgotten during the process...for this there is generally no excuse.

In addition, my experience is that that in an online environment people can be extremely rude and opinionated for no real reason...put them into the equivalent one on one real life scenario and that attitude quickly disappears

I think I tend to give my opinion and that will never be a problem, there is no need to get to the point where you resort to calling names.

In real life I am the same. At work I have to be, my workload revolves around giving my opinion based on evidence in front of me. I express tact and diplomacy but I have to be honest as it would be detrimental if I wasn't.

Within a social group I would never be rude to someone if I didn't like them. I understand the meaning of the word tact and am intelligent enough to put that into practice. I do have a limit though and if goaded I will probably become a little more opinionated, and if I've said more than I wished to I've let myself down.

What is rather humorous to see though is when a group of women have opposing views on the forum and if it gets to a point where they are lying in wait for the other to post, you can tell by how quickly they respond to each other, then there is little input by men.

This is either because men can see that ladies are much more in competition with each other and will steer away from a potential 'catfight' because they think its childish, or they don't want to scupper their chances of a meet. Sometimes I think the men on here have the right attitude

Depends on the subject matter, the situation, the effect etc.

I am happy to keep my own counsel as for the most part I'm comfortable enough in my own skin. However while I may keey my opions to myself when given they're honest -don't see the point in softening them or lying.

I try to be honest.

Doesnt mean I'm right, but if its what I think, then its what I say.

I can be a little too forthright, and some people dont know how to take that, but those who know me and count me as a friend kinda get where I am coming from.

I have been known to bite my tongue (no, really, I have, honest!!), but many times I have jumped in with both size nines and ginven my opinion, even if it aint wanted lol.

At the end of it all, people have got a voice, if they dont like it they can tell me to jog the fuck on!

Opinions are like nipples. Everybody has them.

Some have firm points, others are barely discernible through layers, and some are displayed at every opportunity regardless of whether the audience has stated "I am interested in your nipples" or not.

im not being funny now but are you a tad over sensitive about this

people come on the forums all day and all night and no-one is waiting to pounce at you or are waiting for you to post.

this is a forum ie open discussion and sometimes we all get a bit worked up about subjects and i have had to walk away before now but that's what i do walk away! its just text nothing more.

everyone on fab are entitled to use the forums and post when and what they want to long as it does not break the rules..

if you feel that you are being victimised or bullied mention it to the admin and mods. im sure they will look into the things you have highlighted if you feel that strongly about it.

if you dont want to report it to admin deal with it in your own way ( out of forums)as i come on here for a laugh and to unwind not to see catfights or anything

"you tend to hold back sometimes OR you always speak your mind? "

Time , place and relevance to my belief system.

There is no need to ALWAYS speak your mind.

To me, those that say they always speak their mind or give their opinion show a lack of maturity, discretion , thought , tact , restraint or empathy and probably a hundred other social/emotional labels.

Equally those that respond 'What do you think' or suchlike are simply attempting to bolster an image they need to have of themselves. Narcissistic at the least. Quivering jellies in private. People that cry a lot when they are alone.

There are times , in reality , when even though I am worried about the outcome of giving an opinion / sharing my experiences and ideas , I have to do it.

It's difficult.

Firstly one thinks of the outcomes - weighs up the damages but above all BEFORE an opinion is given a decision to take RESPONSIBILITY for what is said, the damage it causes, the great outcomes it brings , should be well and truly taken on board.

Too many people shout out in total disregard and then pathetically attempt to disown their damage.

If you are going to say 'what you think' then have the backbone to stand behind it OR have the humility to accept that others opinions have changed yours.

Oh.. if it counts I rarely lie or arselick.

Gran.

I tend to speak my mind, although that doesn't mean I am tactless.

I post to a few different forums and I note that, usually, people fall into two camps and those that i agree with on one subject are the same that I agree with about most other subjects (I am on a political site as well, as if you might not have guessed....)

Differences of opinion are what makes the world go round and we don't live in a fascist dictatorship so we can say what we like. Where I draw the line is when people can't counter an argument effectively and switch from attacking the opinion to attacking the person giving the opinion. when this happens I know I have won the argument and stop posting......

I am ready for the fight. The fight against falsehood and those who peddle it. My fight begins today. Thank you and good afternoon."

The inestimable Johnathon Aitken..

I think he believed those words...we know, as he has freely admitted..he was lying thru his teeth...at that moment he was honest in his desire to get away with it..

Sometimes people say things to hurt or win a battle of words, awash with emotion...they believe the " subjective truths " they say will win..they honestly believe that..

Some people are unable to percieve their real motives in expressing their ..honest opinion..

Slightly muddying the waters..

You dont have to be rude to speak the truth. You also dont have to go in depth.
