The book that the film based on the book was based on.

So I liked the Martian so much I bought the book.

Utter crap.

The chapter where he drills 720 holes was the nadir. But you have to finish don't you? So on I struggled like a Mark Watney of this boring and punishing paper landscape.

Then I read the Hunger Games Now reading Fight Club.

Both utterly brilliant, and added somethings the films missed out.

What other book off of a film should I read next? Looking fir something of a page turner, or at least we'll written enough to keep me interested.

Thanks lovely fabbers.

Arrival based on Story of your life.

Absolutely loved the movie and bought the book, haven't read it yet.

Nocturnal Animals, loved the book and the movie.

Bought it for my ex and always intrigued. Good suggestion.

I thought life of pi was a great read, much better than the film. And an age old classic is the godfather, so well written

Not seen the film but loved the book. I can't imagine how they would make a film out of it, the whole story is so internalised.

OK here's where you and I fall out.

I hated the Arrival film.

I guessed the "twist" from the first line of ADR. It's Contact with A levels.

Heard nothing but good about Nocturnal Animals. Will give film a go and then maybe the book.

The book 'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children' was so much better than the film - which took liberties with the story, and not for the better. There are also two further books if you like the fantasy genre.

Not film, but TV, the series of books on which Game of Thrones is based are very enjoyable - not that the TV show isn't fantastic, but the books provide a load more detail. Though the on screen storyline has now gone beyond the books!

After reading the shining the film is average, like most stephen king novel based films. Shawshank redemption is possibly the only film based on a king book that does it justice. The running man film is tripe compared to the book hardly even the same story.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy

Though the original films were very good, think the books are way better than the Daniel Craig version of the first one

I was going to say The Running Man but given the ending, they’d never make it now

The Dexter novels are great. The telly series got off to a good start, but the novels have a whole different level of black humour and twisted weirdness that was never going to make it onto TV

I hate this happy endings (not that kind of happy ending) Hollywood bullshit. The Witches was a wonderful film of a wonderful book, but why the fuck couldn't they leave the ending as Dahl wrote it? Hurrumph.

Shipping News (Annie Proulx). The film was a massive anti-climax, and poorly cast. I've read the book 7 times and love it. I agree that Life of Pi is a better book than film, too.

Yeah, I wondered massively about that. Saw the film in my 20s but read the book when I was 12 - and I didn't remember there being the sort of "did he just imagine it all" subtext being in there at all.

He *did* do that with the coat hangar, and the rats *were* starving...

Somewhere In The Ether…

I remember reading Jaws by Peter Benchley many years ago having loved Spielberg’s classic movie.

The book was utter shite(!), concerning itself far less with the shark than it did regarding Brody’s wife playing away with Hooper!

Not films but Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose is what the series was based on.

Also Helmet for my pillow by Robert Leckie and With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge were both used for the basis of The Pacific.

All brilliant reading.
