Troll Seeking Abuse (not me!)

I was watching something the other day and they said that apparently a lot of these internet trolls don't say nasty things to others because they mean it, it's to provoke a reaction from others who also see the post and then turn on them. They enjoy the abuse and humiliation. It's not something I'd really thought of before and not that I was one to often rise to a comment I see but it's certainly made me look at it a different way. I think ignoring is more powerful than responding. What do you think?

I think there could be some truth in that. Like the horrible child who doesn't get any attention for good behaviour, so behaves badly to get attention.

Either way it's very sad.

I think it's often a control thing. They say things to elicit a certain response so when they get it they feel empowered.

I think trolls tend to lack that attention or confidence in day to day life so doing it online gives them some kind of satisfaction. I've noticed they tend to thrive off "out-smarting" people.

The biggest problem with the internet is the anonymity it affords these people. They feel safe because it's not face to face, a bit like road rage. None of them would act like this in public especially if they thought the backlash would arrive on their doorstep. In this way it's very much the act of a coward.

I dont mind taking on trolls and can soak up their crap. As I say .

Pick on me then they are leaving someone else alone.
