Why do lots of people have a disclaimer about Sydney University on their profile?

It’s ok for any other university to use your information, just not Sydney?

I’m guessing something must have hadn’t sometime, but have a clue what?

Please fill me in on the secret!

Brighton - even Hove!

It’s probably an urban myth and has been around for years.

More fool those who use the ‘legal’ warning.

Paisley

I had a laugh at someone’s profile that said they were free to use his pics.

It's a bit of a joke now. What makes us laugh is the huge amount of useless legal stuff on profiles which sometimes dwarfs the profile text

near Glasgow

Some years ago (circa 2006), there was a professor at Sydney Uni (Alistair Blanshard) who was writing a book about the sex lives of the Romans (the rich, hedonistic ones) and was examining the effects of the myths of Roman excess on the sex lives of the current time and current attitudes to sex/sexuality.

As part of that he was using sites like fab for research, and used anonymised data in his lectures on the subject.

There are still similair courses of study at Sydney Uni, but to be honest, the disclaimers have little effect on academics choosing to use anonymised data if they wish to.

The disclaimer is bollocks. I'm fully aware that I lost all rights to any privacy the minute I started putting nekked pics on t'internet

Reading

Rumour of some unethical research done on dating profiles in the past, not exactly sure myself but curious too. Been seeing the 'warning' for at least 10 years on various adult sites....

Fully agree its crap, however after some friends of ours were exposed by the Sunday people for their swingers wedding it appears that all the people they had on their friends list had their profile updated with the message to try and avoid newspapers etc using your images.

The legal bit is an absolute load of bollocks unless fab takes the offender to court, which may be why they added it to our profile.
