Royal Bank of Scotland( approx 75% by the taxpayer) made pre-tax profits of £2bn in the three months to 30 September, against a £1.6bn loss in the same period last year.

Congrats everyone, looking forward to the dividend

Are you also aware that of the Banks that were bailed out last year over 50% of the money used to bail them out has been repaid to the Treasury. If RBS has made such good profits then we should be thankful that with a possible Recession II approaching that RBS may not require another bail out as they have enough cash of their own.

Isn't that saving taxpayer money in disguise?

I don't want a payout....I don't want anyone else to receive a payout...

I simply want RBS to gain enough financial strength to avoid a repeat of the bale outs.....that'll do for me.

Prolly worth mentioning the £ 1.3 billion paid in bonuses to investment bankers at RBS....a 100 0f which got a bonus of £1 million..

In a bank 84 % state owned...

Think I`ll go and join the unwashed at St Pauls...

There`s something macarbe going on...economies and markets at the forefront of all political ideaology, and the world plunging into a depression...madness..

£ 1.3 billion....niiice !..

Unfortunately the government will attempt to hide away the news of the bonuses with the smokescreen of the £2 Bn. profit made by the bank...

When I moved to Devon 14 years ago my local Natwest bank had 9 customer service windows and at least 6 or 7 were constantly manned....now in the same branch they have covered 5 of these windows up with a false wall....and today at lunchtime, with a queue that stretched to the rear of the bank and back halfway down to the entrance...there were two poor junior bank workers working all alone and getting buffeted from pillar to post by angry customers. Took me nearly half an hour to pay some bills.....but as long as the bosses get their massive bonuses who cares eh?

They make these bonuses via massive staff losses....bollocks to the customer.

Newcastle and Gateshead

Two tiny bits of info I would like to add....

The investment division have agreed not to take any bonus...

The loss for the last quarter was mainly down to writing off ppi claims.. Lloyds for example wrote off 3 billion pounds last quarter for the same thing...

At the end of the day the govt will end up making money on the banks they bailed out

Evidence given by RBS boss Stephen Hester to the Public Accounts Comittee makes interesting reading...

In 2010 323 core staff were paid £ 375 million in bonuses...

Its obscene...and macarbe...

Hester defended his £ 7.7 million salary btw...

If I could pay someone £1.3bn per year to earn me £2bn profits per quarter, then I would too.

Some of us are old enough to remember when nationalised industried run to suit the government of the day (British Leyland, anyone?) lost the country billions year after year. Now tell me that this is a better way to run a bank.

It would of been better to nationalise the fucker..

Get some credit flowing to business...

Especially with a second credit crunch looming..

I`m 49 years old...

I remember the seventies and eighties well enough...

This is the same old....same old....same old....defending a system that led to our current woes....its very curious to me ...

I don`t know about yer figures btw....
