Jobs you always wanted to do

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

We all have aspirations. Jobs which we wanted to do, but for whatever reason couldn't weather it would be financial or timely.

I wanted to be a paramedic, always have, but couldn't face the thought of doing a Uni course at my age

What was/is your dream job? And what has stopped you?

Mrs x

It's made me a bit sad to read that. Have you completely ruled out becoming a paramedic?

I missed my eldest first smile, steps everything due to work. So with my youngest (twins) I have held back my goals. Its one of those things, you only live once, but I want to see my kids as much as possible, my shifts at the moment aren't great, but I make sure I see them before they go to school etc.. And I can't see me starting a new career because I love the buggers to much xx

We are both working at jobs which we enjoy and wouldn't want to swap for another. The hours we work suit us both. If you don't enjoy the job you're doing, it may be worth looking for something you want to do, or going back to college to get the qualifications you need for the job you want like I (Mr2) did.

The money is alright when the going is good, but in 2008 during the crash I was only pulling in £300 a week and working like a Japanese prisoner of war for it.

Plus, it ain't that clean. Not unless you just doing testing. Installation (especially first fix) can get pretty mucky

It’s not that bad.... if you do it through a trust you get paid to do it. Lots of people do it in their 30’s / 40’s now. East of England are currently taking on student paras. Don’t know if I’m allowed to post the link, but it’s on NHS jobs.

Salary is misleading (you actually get a lot more than the base rate because of the unsocialable hours payment)

Having a passion for metalworking and lately watching Forged in Fire on Blaze, Blacksmithing rather than Bladesmithing but the alchemy nonetheless intrigues me. Would happily pack in my current job to do this at the Living wage rate.

Fighter pilot. But my parents split up when I was in the middle of my O levels. So had to get a job after exams were finished to help mum get by financially. Joined the army a couple years later though so still got to do my bit for Queen and country.

Although CEO of a major bank would be good. Get paid a shit ton of money, be shit at my job, get sacked, get a shit ton of money as severance.
