Ugly duckling

Did anyone else used to get called ugly at school a lot?

How did it affect you in adult life, I still view myself based on the comments I used to get when I was younger. I know it's silly but still find it hard to think of myself any differently.

The guys who used to call me “tree trunk legs” and “fatty” at school are now bald, with beer bellies and married to plus-size women.

I bet all those people who called you “ugly”, don’t have such great thighs

Just to put the original post in context, I'm not feeling so down about it. Reason being is literally been on a bus and heard some chavy teenage girls hurling abuse at some random guy on the bus. Basically calling him hideous.

Just got me thinking and brought back some memories

I was always picked on because I was quiet and short....

then I had a growth spurt when I was 14 ..

oddly enough no one bothered me after that

School can be cruel for some people.

Just try and surround yourself with positive people and try and leave your school thoughts in the past where they belong

I was ginger with freckles. So as you can imagine, I got called a lot of names. I think it does stay with you. That little voice in the back of your head. People make jokes about being ginger, but being a kid and going through puberty with the constant name calling and sniggers can affect your self esteem in later years too.

Have been told many times at various stages of life I was fat, ugly and had a huge nose, even at my smallest when I had a 26"waist I was still told I was fat.

Now I'm older I don't take as much notice anymore however it does stay with you. One nose job, several rounds of botox and a round of lip filler later and I know I'll never be 'happy' with how I look, but if I can do things to keep me looking around average, so hopefully less likely to attract negative attention then that'll do.

I'm a bit like that sometimes, but fuck it. People mature and most would no ot be that insensitive now. You get what you're given, just work it

I was never bullied at school.

My mother told me I was ugly and family told me I was fat (at size 8/10). These things do influence how we see ourselves and how we react to criticism. I am now genuinely fat but I know I am not ugly and that my weight doesn't define me.

OP, I remember your other thread. No one can give you confidence, you have to earn and learn it. Good luck.

I have to laugh at some of the things that happen at school, as I was an army brat and moved schools a lot but never once, despite being a short arse and therefore perceived as an easy target, was I ever bullied, my sister on the other hand who is taller and older relied on me to protect her.

But one comment my stepdad made when I was 13 'was for gods sake (insert name here) your boobs are meant to be bigger than your belly' Even though I have never been fat, maybe a bit chubby but even now I look down at myself and hate my stomach (pot belly I call it) and I am a Next size 6, it's strange how things stick with us for the worst

I wasn't bullied or called ugly specifically, more picked on.

I moved from Sheffield to my current town when I was seven. I got picked on for my accent, picked on because I've always had big eyes, got picked on because I had a lazy eye, picked on as I couldn't pronounce specific words and because I was bad at sports, both due to my dyspraxia... all sorts! Kids can be cruel.
