So our lovely British icon has Alzheimer's. I personally wish her well . My Nan had it and in its final stages it is heart breaking to witness . So I wish Babs well . All together now " GET OUTTA MY PUB " .

Well she won't have any offspring mourning her as she had 5 abortions. Can't stand the woman myself. It's more sad when ordinary folk get it and their kids end up trying to take care of them.

I'm not sure why that's important. Lots of people have terminations for lots of reasons.

It's not a competition she is an ordinary person,she has a husband who needs to take care of her now.

Lost my dad last week to this horrid disease. He was super fit and mentally agile just 3 years ago and once the disease gripped him it was heartbreaking to witness the speed of his deterioration.

For the people who were a bit nasty on this thread , as of yesterday donations to the Alzheimer's Society have gone up by 30% . So Barbera Windsor coming out has benefited the charity that deals with this awful disease

What an awful post. I get you don't like the woman but what has having 5 abortions got to do with her having alzheimers? Vile.

Let's hope some day you don't get a life limiting disease and someone doesn't pick apart your life choices. You know nothing of the reasons behind her actions and to judge her so glibly on a post that has nothing to do with abortion but is a reaction to her and her friends and family coming to terms with her deteriorating health is rather pathetic.... I'm my opinion of course

I'm no great fan myself, but to wish ill on her is a bit much. It's a horrible disease which I wouldn't wish on anyone regardless of whether I like them.

As an aside, I can recommend checking out Hannah Perl's album Awake But Always Dreaming which was inspired partly by her grandmother's Alzheimer's.

I became a dementia friend champion recently and they used a ‘bookcase’ to describe dementia and Alzheimer’s etc, google it, it was really helpful.

I work with people living with dementia every day and everyone has to remember there is more to the person than their illness.

Babs has led a very colourful life and hopefully the memories that she has from way back when are happy ones.

My residents in my home their illness ranges so much from having a little memory to having hardly any which is heartbreaking seeing them, one lady I work with cannot even remember we made her a cup of tea despite just giving it to her, her day is her trapped in worry and just wanting a cup of tea or bread and butter, I sit with her most days when I’m in trying to hold her hand and telling her she’s ok and she does say ‘are you my friend’ to which I give her a cuddle (which she loves) and say ‘of course’. Her condition has changed so much in the last 6 months as she got all excited when it snowed in December and we spent along time looking out the window together but when it last snow she didn’t even want to get up out of her chair.

There are others where I work that you can sit and have a conversation with for about ten minutes or so, having the same conversation every day can be a little hard as I try hard not to interrupt them with the answer as it’s the first time they have told me, despite it probably being the 60th I’ve heard it but to them it’s fresh.

Sorry I know this was just about babs but dementia and Alzheimer’s is very close to my heart and I’m working hard to develop a befriendering service for my residents and other care homes so when carers and us activitiy coordinators can’t be with them they will have a friendly face come and visit them.
