(Male-to-female) transsexual or trans woman would be the accurate terms. Some still see ‘transsexual’ as overly associated with the fetishisation of trans people, so they may prefer trans woman.

Doesn't really roll off the tongue as well as my suggestion.

Besides shemales, as the OP refers to them, are pretty well fetishized by some people already. Those are the type of people he was interested in rather than trans women,some of whom are quite boring and not very sexy at all.
