Personally I think they're on the way out.

Depends how they are done, there really are some awful salons and the finished result looks awful.

Mine are natural, kept short, but more often than not painted.

Mine aren't false (well one is right now as I broke it) but they do have acrylic on them to make the stronger. I love them and always get complimented on them.

I have acrylic overlays as my natural nails have lost their strength due to the gloves I wear at work. Causes them to split. Before I had lovely nails that I was proud of.

Nicely maintained natural nails get my vote.

Not averse to painted nails at all, so long as it's nicely done and doesn't look like it's been done with a jumbo paintbrush leaving dabs of varnish clearly visible over the surrounding skin!!

My talons are all natural & just a fraction under 1½" long.

I do get them gel painted at the salon every 2wks though, it would take me all day to do them myself

Now I am jeqlous, years of biting my nails means they aren't strong, and apparently, they never will be

As well as a teacher I’m also a trained nail technician who specialises in gel nails, and I have to say a nice gel nice wins for me every time! We all double up our professions in our house, as my husbands a teacher as well but also a games designer in a big company. C x

Eyelashes or nail varnish (or anything else for that matter - make up related or otherwise) it's more noticeable if it's badly applied though

Ladies try Nail Envy by OPI. Apply daily for a few weeks and see the difference. I wear it as a base coat or stand alone as a clear varnish and my nails super strong. I’m not a fan of OPI varnish, it’s pants but their treatments are good

I love my false nails, they look quite natural though. I personally, can't stand the square shapes or very pointy claws. I enjoy getting the colours changed to match my mood (shallow I know).

Some of us aren't blessed with nails that grow nicely. Mine aren't strong and they break really easily. The only way I can have nice nails is to fake it. *shrugs* it pleases me. I ain't fussed about negative opinions others have.

This. Actually same goes for my eyelashes and my clothes, my hair etc. I wear what I like because I want to. If someone has a negative opinion of that then that is their issue.

They’re strong because they’re looked after and more susceptible to splitting if they’re not looked after. Sorry that’s the best I can come up with as an answer

I bit my nails til I was 19 not just nibbled them but till they bled, often right down to the actual quick & nail bed.

They didnt grow properly until in my 30s.

Now I can't even use an emery board to file them they're so strong!

Some jobs make it impracticable, or even impossible (maybe due to hygiene or patient safety) to have any length of nails, so some have no choice but to have fake ones. If they are well done, there is nothing wrong with false ones.
